What type of laptop should I get?

Laptop help!!!

New member
Hi

My old laptop is constantly crashing so time to get a new one but need help with what to get as I really dont know.

We wont use it a great deal. Will be used for my 7 year old to do homework on things like excel, Word and PowerPoint and some web homework sites. I have a lot of photos on existing laptop which I use the Amazon Cloud desktop app for, so photos saved 8n cloud on on laptop (current laptop is at about 420 of 500 storage). I do use online photo book sites.

I need to keep the price as low as possible though, so need something that does the job but not bothered about unnecessary extras.

Any help, ideas? What's the min RAM I need etc??

Thank you!

It's worth troubleshooting it first.

It could be a software / driver issue solved by reinstalling Windows. It could be a temperature issue solved by cleaning and repasting. It could be a 'minor' hardware issue like faulty RAM. All of these are free to diagnose, and either the solution is free or a much lower cost than buying a new system. Also better for the environment as you're not relegating a laptop to being 'faulty'.

Honestly for the uses you outline and your wish to keep costs to a minimum, an off-the-shelf laptop for ~£350 or whatever on special offer would be a better bet than one of PC's laptops. PCS's specialism is custom build systems and those can't always match the low price of an off-the-shelf system on special offer.

We can't give sales advice on other companies' systems of course, you'd need another forum for that.

We could always suggest a spec from PC Specialist and you could go and comparison shop other options.

What's the spec of your current system? What CPU does it have? Would help suggest a reasonable option for you to move to.
