where are PC specialist Windows CD Key located?.

Hello, i have had a PC Specialist system for some years now and im due a fresh format but i cant for the life of me find the windows CD key... got my disc but there is no key on the sleeve. however in one of the booklets it says windows activation guide and displays a illustration with a windows key... is that it? TIA.

What version of Windows? With OEM Windows 10 (and 8.1 I think) the 'key' is hard coded on the board. Once it's been activated for the first time with this 'key' the Microsoft activation servers store the 'hardware id' of your PC. Any future install of Windows 10 will automatically activate because of the stored 'hardware key'. No product code is ever needed.

With a retail copy of Windows 10 there is a regular produce key.

its Windows Home Edition and i see so i'm good to just format my PC without having to worry about CD activation prompting me to enter a CD key? also im guessing this means that if i upgrade my motherboard anytime soon i will also need to buy a windows CD again? TIA.

If it's windows 10 you can tie your license to your microsoft account, if you're changing the motherboard or even moving to a new computer, you can transfer the license to it legally now:

yes it is windows 10 home edition, thanks for the info i will do that now so i dont need to buy another copy when i upgrade.
