Which 2.0 speakers?

hey all, (yo guys - For Keynes)

Looking to get some new speakers, ideally just for music, a bit of a quality nut so I want a decent set. Will not be used for games and movies due to already having headset for that need. But its not ideal to put a headset on just for music, especially when home alone :)

So, does anyone have any suggestions? 2.0 is probably all I need.

I was thinking of the Creative Gigaworks T40 II I've seen them in PC World (lol i know) they look the dogs wotsits.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

No subwoofer? Thats the whole point aint it? I have Genius GX speakers, they are brilliant quality for the price which is about the same as those you suggested, but the subwoofer on the set I have is huge, I didn't realise it was this big, but it is extremely powerful and can shake the whole house XD

Tom I have owned the Gigaworks T40 II speakers - sound quality is lacking!! yes they look nice but they honestly sound awful even for an entry system.

currently I have the Logitech z906 surround sound system for my music needs - I guess this would cost to much money for you to justify the sound quality so here are some cheaper but great sounding speakers - I have tried all of these and they have met my requirements in one way or another.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Z506-Surround-Sound-Speakers/dp/B003WJR482 - you could place 2 speakers either side of your monitor and one in the middle - nice sound quality and you get a subwoofer as well and that it fairly powerful.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Harman-Kard...sr=1-1&keywords=harmon+kardon+soundsticks+iii - if you are set on a 2.1 system these speakers produce a nice sound they also have a subwoofer - they look nice to.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=430153987&pf_rd_i=468294 - these are great little speakers nice and small so they don't overshadow anything on your desktop nice sound.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bose-Compan...1695865&sr=1-1&keywords=bose+desktop+speakers - these bose 2.1 speakers are nice and cheep and sound awesome for music!!

I cant think of anymore that I have tested but these would be my top choices for music. Best of luck with your choice bud!!

Where on earth did you test these man, aren't you on like your first PC still? Is there some secret demo-shop I don't know about on the high street? :D

Those Bose desktop speakers are great, no subwoofer though so only 2.0 (suspect it might be a typo from Bsrz).
Is it a 'portability' factor thats making you want to get 2.0 as opposed to 2.1 speakers? If not then I'd really recommend getting a set of 2.1s as opposed to 2.0s especially if its for listening to music.

Perhaps out the price range a wee bit but http://www.cabasse.com/cabfx2012/stream-3-4?lang=en

Look great, sound fantastic and are astonishingly loud before losing clarity (I have the 5.1 system for my living room).

thanks for the replies chaps.

@Bsrz in what way is the sound poor on the gigaworks speakers?

@steaky, It's more of a space issue than a portability thing. (I could make space i guess)

I have owned multipule laptops and desktops, just none for a gaming purpose and none that I have customized my self until now, as for the speakers I have owned 4 of them as well as my z906 that I have now, I have owned the bose companion speakers as well as the logitech z506 speakers and the harmon kardon speakers. I have also owned the gigaworks but later sold them due to the aweful sound quality, the problem lies when the sound is turned up to loud it gets destorted. they are just generally not worth the money. I now have the z906 speakers that I love.

and yes the 2.1 on the bose was a typo :p Steaky is right they are only 2.0 however offer great sound quality.

Fair enough, that's a lot of speakers! I'm still using some 2.1 Advent ones that are probably 10 years old and they're absolutely fine! Perhaps I'm just tone deaf or really missing out on what a good set could do for me :D

I looked into getting the expensive corsair set, but the sub is too big and i'd have no where to put it :(

Big difference in price, the creative ones have pretty good reviews but I wouldn't buy it from Currys.

lol neither would I. But if you go to a large curry's/PC world store, they often have some on display. Worth having a look at I guess.

Do you have a soundcard? I'm a fan of decent soundcards and i certainly wouldn't spend more than 50 on speakers without having a good soundcard. Asus DXG PCI-e cards are very good for the price.
