Will this spec work for audio editing/light gaming?

Hey guys,

I'm just getting ideas for a new PC that will be purchased in a few weeks. The main use will be for recording and editing audio work (via Pro Tools) but after selling my consoles I would also like the option of being able to play the occasional game at reasonably high settings. Here's the spec:

Case
COOLERMASTER SILENCIO 550 QUIET MID TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-4690 (3.5GHz) 6MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® Z97-A: ATX, USB3.0, SATA 6GB/S, SLi, XFIRE
Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 760 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready
1st Hard Disk
1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB CACHE
Power Supply
CORSAIR 450W VS SERIES™ VS-450 POWER SUPPLY
Processor Cooling
Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler (£19)
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking
WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps PCI-E CARD (£16)
USB Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 4 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Firewire
3 Port IEEE 1394a Firewire PCI Card (£9)

Price: £826.00 including VAT and delivery.

I'd like to keep the budget under £900 ideally. So far, the only things I'm unsure about are the motherboard and whether to add an SSD to run the OS from.

If anyone has any advice (especially with regard to the graphics card/gaming or the general noise levels of this kind of rig) then it would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Looks alright to me, the only placed id advise spending more would be the HDD, something like a caviar black would be idea. It may push up the noise levels a touch under load though, as they do kick out some noise if you push the drive hard. Overall its not bad though.

The 760 will be more than capable of keeping up with games, better than your old consoles for sure.

Thanks for the advice so far! I'll change the hard drive to a Caviar Black one.

Is there much difference between the ASUS and the Gigabyte motherboards?

Also, it might be worth noting that I currently edit on an i5 iMac and it handles pretty well. Maybe the SSD would provide more benefit than the upgraded processor?

are you sure? editing?

Yes. I'm sure.
If you keep on adding plug-ins you'll eventually reach the limit of your processing power, but that's not a point that in practice you will reach.
Also, for editing you don't need the lowest of latency so that is less demanding than recording at low latency.

Depends on the i5. For audio editing I would expect an i5 to handle just fine. The difference in asus and gigabyte motherboards... Both are great.
