It looks OK, I have put various Linux distros on three PCS laptops and all have been OK. I have not used Debian for a while, one possible niggle will be that you will have to have the WiFi fimware ready to load from a USB stick, that used to be common problem with Debian but may be fixed now.

Providing your programming work is not too CPU intensive it should be fine but without knowing exactly what you will be doing cannot be totally sure.
