Windows 7 won't start after installing graphics driver

Hey there,

New to the forum but needing some help here. I recently got a custom desktop PC built from PcSpecialist, was very excited when it arrived. However I have ran into a problem.
When I first started it up, there was a black screen after the 'Windows is Starting' screen (the one with the Windows logo). There is still some visual signal to my monitor but it just shows a black screen, not even the startup sound.
Thinking it strange, I opted for a reinstall of the Windows 7 OS as I couldn't get to safe mode as well.

This time, the installation went smoothly and I thought I am now able to enjoy my new PC. Things were fine for a while until I tried to install the graphics card driver (my graphic card is a AMD RADEON™ HD7870). I downloaded the installer from the AMD website and installation was successful. When it prompted me to restart the computer, the same black screen issue happened again. This time, I was able to boot into safe mode and revert to a previous point before I installed the graphics driver. So my computer can run fine on the standard VGA graphics, but it can't run on the graphic card. Now obviously, I can't play any games on this. Anyone can help me out here? A thousand thanks beforehand!

Here's the desktop build

Are you switching the cable between the onboard output and the GPU output (simple things first)? If so, have you disabled the onboard graphics?

Currently, I have a HDMI cable connecting between my GPU output and the monitor. Always have been since day one. Not sure whether I have actually disabled my onboard graphics. I have looked around in BIOS and set the primary display as PCIe (which I am assuming is my GPU) and set the intel render standby to disabled. Is there any sure way to check?

BTW, I am quite a newcomer into this. So if I am babbling nonsense or doing something really stupid, please do forgive my ignorance

Looks like a problem with the AMD graphics card driver, first open device manager, right click "computer" select "manage",then "device manager",under "display adapters" right click on onboard graphics if it's showing and select disable, restart computer.
If still no joy uninstall any AMD driver/software as described below, then try installing driver from provided driver disk, alternatively download and install driver from here.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
Make sure you select HD Series in step 2:
7xxx Series PCIe in step 3: and correct operating system in step 4:
To uninstall existing AMD software,
Click on Start
Open the Control Panel
Select Programs and Features
Select AMD (ATI) Catalyst Install Manager
Click on Change
Click on Next when prompted for the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard forAMD Catalyst Install Manager,
Select Express Uninstall All Software
Follow the on-screen directions and restart the system when finished
To verify that the graphics driver has been uninstalled, return to the Uninstall or Change a Program list and ensure that there is no AMD specific software listed
If AMD specific software is still listed, remove any remaining AMDsoftware components using the above process and restart the system when complete.
Failing this there might be a problem with the graphics card,in which case best phone PCS.

I've tried the above methods and still encounter the same problem. I will try to get in contact with PCS tech team sometime during the weekday. But if anyone have any more ideas, I will be more than happy to try them out. Thanks beforehand!
