Windows 7 x64 to Windows XP x64?

I am thinking (for various reasons) of changing from Win7 to Win XP x64 for my PC Specialist gaming mini-PC (18 months old now and still healthy for the most part). But would I be able to get the required chipset (etc. etc.) drivers for the Asus H97I-Plus M/B? Help appreciated! Thanks.

Why do you want to downgrade? You realise there would be very serious security exposures with XP? You wouldn't be able to source any drivers for the chipset or most peripherals of the mobo, as well as most other parts of the build.

Well, Win7 is set to follow XP in 2020, so the security situation will be the same before too long. In any case, it's a PC used for games, a security 'disaster' (as I back up with drive images) isn't very likely. I run XP on another PC with no issues at all (anti-virus, firewall etc. all installed). On another PC I have Windows 7 but have never installed Windows updates and again - never had any problem.

I would go to XP because I have certain programmes I really want to use that do not run on any later version. The issue is not security to be honest, but whether drivers for the PC are available. I can locate many, GPU, peripherals... but not so far for the M/B.

Thanks.

Principally FSHotSFX. Nobody AFAIK has ever got this to install, let alone work, in Windows 7. I could have a go via a virtual machine, but I am sure it must have been tried before (I'd have to Google the steps needed).

I am having some issues with Win7 and my Asus M/B (AMD00A problems - well documented online) which mean I get hangs at boot and was thinking this might be a time to give XP x64 a go. But as I say, I think that the apparent lack of drivers for the M/B will mean I can't do it (if I decided to - it's just a thought at this stage!).

But the programme would have to run within MS Flight Simulator in Win7. It doesn't work over a network even

So it's an add on rather than a standalone app. I think the idea would be to run flight sim and the add on on the Xp vm.

Hmmm.. not really my 'area of expertise' that. If you were able to indicate a 'step by step' as to how I would achieve that, I could maybe give it a try??? :)

So Windows 7 has an "xp" mode I think they call it which essentially runs a virtual machine of xp. It's a download somewhere off microsofts site and sets it all up for you. It's like a secondary windows machine within your windows 7 machine. You just turn that on and treat it like any other xp machine, install whatever apps etc, but it runs within a window on your windows 7 desktop.

XP x64 was a pig even when it was new.

It isn't binary compatible with x86 having being written from the ground up.

You struggled to get drivers back in the day. Forget it now.
