Would PC Specialists do anything after 2 years?

Hello

I got my Computer from PC Specialists about 2 years ago and i've only just realised that the memory i selected isn't what is in the computer. I selected 4GB CORSAIR XMS3 DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz memory and it's only 1333MHz memory.

This might explain why i've been getting BSOD's on and off since i got the computer because it's been running it at the wrong speed.

My computer is now out of warranty now so i'm not sure if PC Specialists would send me some replacement memory and it doesn't look like they sell the Corsair memory anymore :(

Well, standard warranty is 3 years labour, 1 year parts, 1 month collect and return. So, you would still be able to send it back, but you'd have to pay for collection and any parts fitted.

You would also be best asking for packaging to be sent to you, for the price of £15 so if any damage occurs in transit, you can't be blamed for packing it inadequately :)

Best to ring PCS up on 0844 499 4000, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm. :)

From my memory, the memories default clockspeed is 1333Mhz, however you need to set it in the bios to 1600Mhz (what it is caperble of). This was the case for my Kingston memory. If it is the wrong memory entirely, then you'd be best off contacting support as Corfate said.

It's the wrong memory entirely because i checked the product code on them and on Corsairs website, it comes up with 1333Mhz memory.

On and off BSODs are not a sign of faulty memory - they can be caused be numerous things.

Gishank is correct - all memory runs at it's "native" speed of 1333MHz until the BIOS is adjusted for faster modules and to be honest you will struggle to see much difference in the speed of your computer with 1600MHz over 1333MHz memory (see other threads posted by myself advising customers that the difference is barely noticeable).

If you need technical suport, I would recommend you contact us on 0844 499 4000 for further assistance.

I'm not saying the memory is faulty, just that the memory is the wrong one to what i selected when i bought the computer but it might be why i got BSODs because i had selected wrong speed in the BIOS because i thought it was 1600MHz memory and not 1333MHz.
