There are circumstances where an AMD X3D processor might not be performing as expected, here's an excellent video from Jaz2Cents explaining the problem and how to fix it.

This is only on multi-CCD cpu's so doesn't affect the x800X3D, only the x900X3D and x950X3D. Also, no one should be using the x900X3D for any scenario, as it's only a 6 core X3D die, so it's actually worse performance for gaming, and not great performance for multicore.

I've been trying to highlight that there's still issues with the windows scheduler for the X950X3D, IMHO (although realise this is over the top) but if you do have an X950X3D tier CPU and want it for heavy workload and gaming separately, I would still recommend dual booting and having one windows install configured specifically for gaming with the non-x3d CCD completely disabled.

Aside from the better performance, I would never want game installs on any kind of live professional windows install, especially when you've got awful anti-cheat systems running right down to kernel level! I can't see any serious pro ever being ok with that!

That's really interesting about the CPPC setting in the BIOS though, wasn't aware of that at all.

That's a very good point.

Mine's an extra step detached from that scenario, as I have 2 other computers specifically for 'work'.

That's a great video. I've only known of a few people really struggling, but a Windows install has typically fixed it (after upgrade).

The ability to fix it in a non-lazy way is good for me, it's what I would want to do in those shoes.
