Chassis & Display |
The chassis is the shell of your notebook computer, and includes your motherboard, screen, keyboard, touchpad and battery, amongst other parts.
Display - Screen When considering the screen on a laptop there are several points to take into consideration:
Backlight Type When considering the backlight, there are two types of backlight that we offer; LED backlight and CCFL (LCD) backlight. Generally, LED backlights are better because they are more energy efficient, and have a longer lifespan than CCFL (LCD) backlights. Native (Maximum) Resolution The native (maximum) resolution is the optimal resolution that the notebook screen performs best at, and will give the clearest picture when set at this resolution. Some customers like to ensure that the notebook computer can support 1920 x 1080 (full HD) so they can watch HD movies at their optimum quality. Screen Size When considering the screen size, you will need to take into consideration your intended usage. If you're planning to use the notebook in or around the home/office, you may choose a notebook with a larger screen, because you can display more content at any one time, and see a larger picture quality. If however you take your laptop out and about very regularly you may wish to choose a smaller notebook with a smaller screen for portability. Getting the right balance between the two is sometimes tricky, but most customers opt for 15.6" screen sizes as a happy medium. Screen Type (Glossy or Matte) There are two kinds of LCD screen: matte (anti-glare) and glossy. Both screen types have their advantages and dis-advantages:
So should I choose matte or glossy? Most customers prefer glossy, but it really does depend on your intended use as to what's best for you. If you're always outside, choose matt. Otherwise, choose glossy. However, most screen manufacturers are now moving more towards glossy than matte, and matte is becoming harder to find. |
