SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 2

The SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 2) Specification adds a 10Gbps speed mode that uses a more efficient data encoding and will deliver more than twice the effective data through-put performance of existing SuperSpeed USB over enhanced, fully backward compatible USB connectors and cables. The specification extends the existing SuperSpeed mechanical, electrical, protocol and hub definition while maintaining compatibility with existing USB 3.0 software stacks and device class protocols as well as with existing 5Gbps hubs and devices and USB 2.0 products.

With transfer speeds of 480Mbps USB 3.0 offers up to 40 times greater bandwith than pervious USB formats such as 1.1. The best thing about it is that USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, so even though there are few devices out there at the moment which will use the full potential of USB 3.0, your USB 2.0 devices will still benefit from faster transfer speeds.
