Strange problem with my new desktop, please help!

Specs are below, I received it last week and only recently tried putting it to sleep, it seems to power down fine but then when i try to wake it from sleep the monitor says check signal connection but the desktop seems to be powering up. I have tried re-installing the nvidia graphic drivers (clean re-install), updated the mobo bios, tried different connection types to the monitor (usually use hdmi to hdmi), tried connecting to my tv. Nothing has worked.

Also once i do manually hold the power button down to shut it down then start it up again the screen starts working again and it resumes windows but takes a very long time to boot and then runs slow for a very long time.

One last thing, generally how quick do you think my boot times should be? It doesn't feel like they are as quick as I'd like considering the system spec.

Win 7 64-bit professional
Asus P8P67 Pro
i7 2600K OC'd (Max4.8GHz clock with turbo boost)
GTX 580 1.5GB
8GB 1600mhz Ram
1TB SATA 7200rmp hard drive
Corsair TX 750W

I don't know about the rest, but the boot times should be between 1 and 2 minutes... system specs don't really matter in boot times, it's all about your HDD (or your SSD). An SSD would boot in 15-30 seconds :)

I dont know alot about this but I think its something to do with your power supply becuase a 800W is supposed to be present in the case of have a 580.
If your using your OS on a HDD then you will start up slower, if you put your OS on an SSD then you will boot up alot faster

Right now Im going to presume its something to do with your PSU, I would have went with a 850W

Have you tried powering the PC down properly and restarting it? Because after you force shut it down, it sounds like you're letting it enter safe mode which is much slower.
So fully power cycle it a couple of times, even if it takes 10 minutes to boot, then try sleeping it and see if it does the same thing.

If it is having a problem waking and you're in safe mode all the time, stop using sleep and power down fully when you're done. Your start up times should be around what Linear said.
Could be something to do with the PSU like liamnic2 said, I wouldn't hazard a guess but I think it's unlikely.
You say you tried other connection(s), presumably DVI? So that would rule out dodgy HDMI cable (cable that doesn't support v1.3/1.4 HDMI standard could cause the no signal issue which made you panic and start the safe mode spiral of doom)

Just guessing really, give support a shot and use your invoice to post your spec in future, the full information can be useful.

Yikes it just clicked ... it could be this http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?5657-display-driver-nvidia-windows-kernel-mode-driver-version-270.61
I've been running the new driver all day on my guinea pig rig and it just started taking it down. Seeing heavily corrupted graphics and a (breakable) forced reboot cycle. Just being cautious, it's likely just a bad driver but the roll back appears to have left corruption that's effecting safe mode.

If you have installed the latest Nvidia drivers I'd roll back to the previous one ASAP. I hope this is just me, it's looking nasty... going to play with this for a while tomorrow. :)

A 650W PSU is all that is required for running 1 GTX 580 so the 800W perfectly fine.

If i remember correctly there was a problem for some people with the sleep mode on win 7 will see if i can find anything on it.

Firstly let me say thank you, this forum is AMAZING! Everyone is so helpful and responds so quickly. Definitely gonna be using this forum from now on.
Now back to the problem, yeah really doubt it's the PSU, my power draw should be around 5-600W max. My boot times are about 2-2.30mins so i guess that's normal for a HDD. I have done a few boot cycles and the same problem persists. I'll try rolling back the Nvidia driver from 270.61 to 270.51 and see if anything changes. Im just really hoping I don't have to do a clean install, only got the computer last week and did a clean install, just now about getting round to having everything re-installed. If it solves the problem though I would because I don't like the idea of fully powering down and re-booting the system every time I want to use it, doesn't feel healthy for the system.

Oh and I'll use the invoice from now on, thanks for the heads up ;-)
