I don't seem to be able to install this correctly from the CD. I get an error message when I try to open it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,
please explain what you are trying to install, X-Rite it's way too generic.
Is it X-Rite i1Profiler to calibrate LCD displays?

Pretty much nothing in the world should be installed from a CD anymore, everything on physical media will be out of date, it needs to be downloaded from the internet.

Go on the X-Rite website and download the latest version of the software for your model, it should be i1Profiler. Or better, ditch it for DisplayCal, which is far superior in my opinion.

What exactly do you mean by 'refreshing itself'?

What exactly is the machine doing?

Is it a particular app that is running that keeps refreshing or do you mean the laptop keeps rebooting?

It's almost like a split second flicker. Yes it seems to be more often with chrome, but it happens when not using chrome

Have you just got the laptop and its always doing this or have you had it a while and its just started doing this?

If brand new, what have you done on it so far?

Have you checked the Windows is fully up to date and run the Windows update as many times as needed until no more updates exist?

Have you installed anything - any other drivers or anything and if so where from?

I got this laptop 2 weeks ago.
Windows is fully up to date and the drivers were installed from the CD rom supplied, I cannot tell whether this has always done it it is so instantaneous that I only really noticed it yesterday. I'm thinking of doing a clean install using windows media then allowing windows to do the updates. My other 3yr old Defiance is performing far better than this laptop in question I have no error messeges in system reporting, but this new laptop has loads. I think I'll reload windows clean and see what happens. Thank you for you help. One Question after installing windows and allowing it to update should install ALL the drivers from the CD? Kind regards Lou

It sounds as if you will be better off doing that - delete all partitions and a complete new CLEAN install and allow Windows to update everything and dont touch the CDRom drivers at all just yet - as it is likely they might be out of date.

Get Windows to update as much as possible.

(Damn beaten to it again)..

Before doing anything else check on the Nvidia website for the latest graphic drivers, but make sure you install the laptop/notebook ones

Many thanks for the input, so far I've reinstalled windows and allowed it to update, installed Geforce and allowed it to up date no problems so far. I suspect it was the PC Specialist Drivers causing all the grief I've had. I'll keep you updated!

Its the same with any new build though, provided with drivers to use from build of laptop, however things change with time. Its always best nowadays to just let Windows find the drivers for you and update update update etc, THEN if there are still any drivers not found, go to the manufacturer website for chipset drivers, component drivers etc.

Its like buying a new Smart phone nowadays, its packaged up and when you get it, it needs to update the OS on it as things have moved on.

That's a tad unfair, PCS only supply drivers that were current at build time. As the PC/laptop ages they become more and more outdated - especially graphics drivers. Windows Update and/or the hardware device vendor's website is the place from which to source drivers.

Windows isn't configured, that's why, did you reinstall?

You mention above that you installed drivers from the CD, was that after a windows reinstall?

LOL beat me to it @SpyderTracks

@lousmaczylo

How far / much have you completed in relation to the CLEAN install that was advised to do.

Have you ensured that Windows has run ALL the updates available and that no more Windows Updates are there?

If you have done this then this is where we turn to looking at installing chipsets / drivers from either manufacturers website OR the CD / downloads section of PCS account. HOWEVER, before you do that, please can you do the following:

1. Upload a picture of the files you have on the CD (snipping tool is a good thing to use for this sort of thing).

2. For each device manager item that have a yellow triangle, can you right click and select Properties. In the window that then comes up, select Hardware IDs from the drop down menu under the title 'Property'. Can you then take a snipping tool picture of that window and post it in your post too.

3. Look at the label on the bottom of the laptop and advise what model/chassis number it is please and if it states manufacturer at all (possibly TongFang or Clevo). If in doubt, just take a picture and add that to your post too.

This will help identify what items it is that does not have drivers.

(you may also want to just try clicking the driver tab and clicking update driver to see if it finds anything).

Hopefully we can then advise a bit further to help you sort this out.

Thanks.
