    Thanks Scott for the very useful info. Transferring the license sounds a good moneysaving idea. What's best - (a) deactivate the old PC straight away or (b) run the new one without activation until I'm happy to change over? (b) sounds safer but... Up to now I have always kept the old machine...

    Forgot to mention: a PS/2 port is essential on the motherboard. I am still using my aging but favourite MS Office keyboard, via an AutoHotkey script to enable the LH scroll wheel - why haven't any other manufacturers copied this idea?). It doesn't work via USB.
