    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST The Book Clud

The Humble Book Bundles vary in quality depending on the publisher. I am only really interested in technical topics and have bought bundles by O'Reilly, No Starch, APress and Make. There have recently been bundles from Manning and Prentice-Hall which weren't in my sphere of interest. O'Reilly...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Great service

I recently had a problem ordering an additional power supply for my Lafite 14" Pro laptop. Using the website chat feature the problem was resolved quickly and effectively. I was impressed.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST 14" Lafite Pro Debian 11 Installation Success

I also installed the linux-firmware package from non-free after getting i915 missing firmware messges. My wife has been using this now for the past 24 hours and she is very happy with it and everything has to be perfect for her to be happy. She was previously using OS X on a MacBook Air and had...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST 14" Lafite Pro Debian 11 Installation Success

My 14" Lafite Pro (upgraded to 512GB drive) arrived today and I have installed Debian 11. I was a little anxious as it has an Nvme drive and there have been booting issues previously reported but I have experienced no unexpected problems. The machine was ordered with no OS but came with a...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST lafité IV 15.6 + successful Pop_os 19.10 install (then updated to 20.04)

Good news about VT-x but not so good about NVMe as I have specified a Samsung 970 EVO. I'm getting cold feet now.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST lafité IV 15.6 + successful Pop_os 19.10 install (then updated to 20.04)

I found this https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/10-days-with-14-fusion-iv.73919/ which is encouraging although it refers to the Fusion IV not the Lafite.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST lafité IV 15.6 + successful Pop_os 19.10 install (then updated to 20.04)

Thanks for the reply Stephen. Thinking about it, the required VT-x and VT-d settings would affect running VMs in Windows as well so they must surely be available and/or enabled for Windows users. I'll see if I can find any references to problems running VirtualBox or VMWare in windows.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST lafité IV 15.6 + successful Pop_os 19.10 install (then updated to 20.04)

I am a little concerned to learn about the locked down Bios and particularly references to virtualisation settings. I have a 14inch Lafite Pro (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/replacement-for-2012-macbook-air.78762/) on order and intend to install Debian. Is anyone confirm...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST US vs UK keyboard

I much prefer the layout of the US keyboard and as has been pointed out you can replace a UK layout with a US layout on Windows and Linux. I use a US keyboard all the time on my desktop and the only real drawback for me is remembering the key combination for the £ key which does not appear on a...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Replacement for 2012 Macbook Air

Thanks for pointing this out. I actually placed an order on Monday 22nd February but prior to that I reviewed the quote and came to the same conclusion as you for exactly the same reasons and went for the 500GB drive. You are spot on about gaming!
