PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Looking for the best laptop for After Effects

Hi, I want a laptop that's great for after effects and video editing - in the configurator I can choose either: i7 8-core 11800H (2.3GHz) with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (16GB) or AMD Ryzen 9 8-core 5900HX (3.3Ghz) with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (8Gb) Which do you think will be faster for editing...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Looking for the best laptop for After Effects

Hi all, I'm going abroad for a while and need to switch from pc to laptop for a while - I'm hoping my workflow won't be slowed down too much by this changeover. I'm thinking of spending around £2.5K - some of the laptops I've been looking at include the ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16, or from the...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Thanks guys - unfortunately has been another update - the Dark Base Pro is not currently in stock. They're suggesting the Corsair 750D instead. I'm waiting to find out what the wait will be on the Dark Base Pro but it's looking like at least a few weeks :/

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Another update - PC Specialist are suggesting basically that it would be better to return to the beQuiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Case - this way we can keep the Liquid Cooler and go with the ROG Zenith II Extreme (not Alpha). This is a really interesting situation as the Dark Base Pro was the case...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Hi guys, hope you are all well. This thread's been quiet for a while but thought I would post an update - I went ahead with the revised build that Scott suggested (listed below). Before purchasing I asked about RAM and motherboard, but was only able to reach the sales team about the issue who...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Will also ask about 4x32Gb 3200MHz RAM (though from what I'm reading a lot of people seem to think the difference doesn't mean much). About overclocking, that's a really important point - at first I assumed overclocking was a bad idea, everything's running hotter, you're going to wear out your...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Alright, I'll definitely discuss the motherboard with them today, see if I can get more info on that. Completely agree that I want this build to be right before I pull the trigger on it, but I think we're pretty close now. Again, thanks so much Scott (and Jamie) for helping out, I would've have...

Interesting, thanks for explaining, very good to know :)

So you would go for 4 x 32Gb 3000MHz RAM rather than 8x16Gb 3200MHz RAM. Out of interest, why is that so much better? Does the MHz speed not really matter?

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Hey Scott, sure thing - this is actually the one I've just being playing with. Let me know what you think. I switched the motherboard from the extreme to the alpha and that seems to work fine. It's a few hundred quid more expensive but the Corsair 680X case is cheaper than the BeQuiet! 900 Rev...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Okay, interesting - when going through the PC Specialist site to update the components for a new quote, it's telling me that the ASUS® ROG ZENITH II EXTREME Motherboard is too large to fit into either the Corsair 680X case or the Fractal Define R7 - would you suggest a different motherboard or a...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Hey Scott, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! My thinking with the M2 drives is to have the OS on the smallest drive, then use the 500GB drive for cacheing previews in After Effects (something that you're doing constantly when animating that can really slow you down). Then on the 2TB I'd...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Jamie, thanks so much for your response. Yeah, rendering in Octane most of the time myself as well. Thanks for the advice on RAM, will definitely look into that. Again, really appreciate you taking the time to look over the build :)
