High-End PC for Rendering in Cinema4d and After Effects/Nuke

Alright, I'll definitely discuss the motherboard with them today, see if I can get more info on that. Completely agree that I want this build to be right before I pull the trigger on it, but I think we're pretty close now. Again, thanks so much Scott (and Jamie) for helping out, I would've have been very nervous buying this machine without you :)

Will also ask about 4x32Gb 3200MHz RAM (though from what I'm reading a lot of people seem to think the difference doesn't mean much). About overclocking, that's a really important point - at first I assumed overclocking was a bad idea, everything's running hotter, you're going to wear out your components faster, but after looking around on a few forums and contacting PC Specialists themselves, I was assured that overclocking was the way to go - apparently the CPU is pushed only to a level where it maintains a safe temperature, and if it is done correctly and safely by a professional then it shouldn't reduce the lifespan of components. What do you think, is that just BS?

Cheers, Dan.

I personally wouldn't OC an AMD build. They don't OC like Intel do, you get all the cores locked at the worst performing cores level..... all for very little gain. The AI in the boosting tech of the AMD chips does a fantastic job of maximising the performance so I would recommend just leaving it as it is :D

With regards to the RAM, I don't think it will make too much of a difference for your uses to be honest. It's definitely worth asking the question though.

Hi guys, hope you are all well. This thread's been quiet for a while but thought I would post an update - I went ahead with the revised build that Scott suggested (listed below). Before purchasing I asked about RAM and motherboard, but was only able to reach the sales team about the issue who promised that they would check with a technician and get back to me - they assured me there would be a good reason why these components were unavailable. After a few days they got back and said that the motherboard didn't fit the case and that they weren't sure about why it wasn't possible to get 4x32Gb 3200 RAM but that it must have failed testing (probably a heat issue or that they simply hadn't had the opportunity to stress test these components in this type of build). I mentioned that the ROG ZENITH II EXTREME ALPHA was the same size as the EXTREME (E-ATX), which they checked on, then came back and agreed and said they weren't really sure in that case!

I decided to go ahead with the build anyway, but just now I have had an email through from their support team saying that the CoolerMaster MasterLiquid ML360 RGB TR4 High Performance Liquid Cooler does not fit in this case and that they want to swap it out for the NOCTUA NH-U14S TR4-SP3 FAN CPU COOLER instead.

I'm concerned this won't be a sufficient fan for this build - what do you guys think? Would love some advice and it seems pretty much impossible to speak directly with their technicians on the phone (but I'll keep trying!).

Cheers, Dan.

Another update - PC Specialist are suggesting basically that it would be better to return to the beQuiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Case - this way we can keep the Liquid Cooler and go with the ROG Zenith II Extreme (not Alpha). This is a really interesting situation as the Dark Base Pro was the case that I originally went with but looked to small to house these components (I totally agree that the Corsair 680X looks to have way better airflow and seems really spacious). Dimensions of the 680X are 423(H)x344(W)x505(D)mm, while the Dark Base Pro is 584(H)x254(W)x596(D)mm.

The dark base pro is massive! Amazing case, I’d say it was worth it

The dark base pro is an absolute monster of a case. I dont think it's as good for airflow but it will be excellent regardless.

The components are spot on, I would pick a case to fit them rather than reverse so the Dark Base would win for me. With the cooler on there itll aid the airflow anyway 😁

Thanks guys - unfortunately has been another update - the Dark Base Pro is not currently in stock. They're suggesting the Corsair 750D instead. I'm waiting to find out what the wait will be on the Dark Base Pro but it's looking like at least a few weeks :/
