hi thanks all - now resolved. Support from pcspecialist helped address the issue - iCUE software for corsair controls the lighting - not Aura/armoury crate it appears, even though both software shows RGB devices connected. iCue managed to set a dark profile so all good now. I didnt even know...

re: "Did you install Asus AI Suite? " -it came with armoury crate installed, however i've uninstalled some of the sub-apps within it live overwolf etc. Doesnt seem any easy way to disable or change as the AI overclock tuner setting can be set to 'manual' but then most other sub setting revert...
