I think the situation is pretty clear and therefor his example redundant. In fact, his choice of example was condescending rather than clarifying.

Yes I considered this option. However, I'm in research and my setup takes a week or longer to replicate (already had to do it twice because of the clean installs I did in an attempt to fix the issues), and due the demands of the current project I don't have time for this. So I guess I’m stuck...

Yes naturally, it was an update to all the other messages i posted above. I have tried many many things over the last 8 months, nothing works. But thanks! For the record and for those who are experiencing the same issue, Gaming Center greys out all the options pertaining to the keyboard backlight:
