This problem has been posted before (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...nter-problems-on-recoil-ii.60305/#post-448687) and as it exactly matches my current issue i quote:

"I've got a problem with the Control Center (or GamingCenter) on my Recoil II.
It used to work fine, but for some months now i can't change the keyboard color and also i can't change the brightness.
The application works fine, but when i choose lighting settings it doesn't show up anything under Color Backlighting Wizard, but i can change the front bar color without any problem. After changing the bar color if i try to go back to the keyboard backlight wizard, the program crashes"

I've tried:
- reinstalling the application (and pretty much all versions currently available online)
- updating keyboard drivers
- going into BIOS to change the backlight settings from here (doesn't work)
- asking help from PCS (they are responsive but quite slow and not very effective)

added on 31/03/2020:
- PCS provided BIOS update
- Clean re-install of Windows 10

initially, sometimes one of these changes would result in a temporary fix, but usually after a couple of reboots the functionality would again fail. The last month nothing has worked and I am stuck with a backlight thats always turned on. The main problem i have with this is that it unnecessarily drains my already very poor battery-life.

I am considering flashing my BIOS but would greatly appreciate any tips, feedback and / or suggestions. Also i am curious if more people experience this or a similar problem.

Many thanks in advance...

Where are you getting the versions of the software from?

Be aware, if you're not already, that flashing the BIOS would void the warranty.

Ive literally just fixed it... it had turned off in the BIOS menu.

All working now. Thank you for the quick response!
This initially fixed the issue for me too, but then after a couple of re-boots the issue would return. I'd be interested to know if this is a stable fix for you! In reply to your other question, I still haven't been able to resolve the problem. I updated the BIOS (send to me by PCS), which didn't make a difference. Then, last week out of nowhere the backlight started working again and I could customize as normal with control center. But, then again after a couple of re-boots it stopped working and now I am back to the status as described in my initial post.

PCS has let me know I need to ship the laptop to them so they can run tests to try and find out what's wrong. Unfortunately this is not really an option for me as I need it for work.

update: for other reasons I had to do clean install of Windows 10 but this did not resolve the issue either..

You'll need to install Control Center manually, it's not part of the Windows install.

Yes naturally, it was an update to all the other messages i posted above. I have tried many many things over the last 8 months, nothing works. But thanks! For the record and for those who are experiencing the same issue, Gaming Center greys out all the options pertaining to the keyboard backlight:

same problem here. Tried:
# A full clean installation of windows,
# Reinstall many different versions of Gaming Center,
# Change BIOS option of keyboard light effect.

That's your problem, you should never use a program like driver booster, at best they load incompatible drivers and cause system instability, at worst they are in fact viruses.

You'll need to do a clean installation of windows from scratch.

well, done complete reinstall and its still the same...was hoping that would work but after reading the thread i had my doubts...others had tried complete reinstall to no avail...

what i find strange is before i reinstalled windows i had removed the control center app, but when i went into the bios it was still giving me the same options for backlighting like wave or rainbow etc, as if it were still switched on... there is no on off option....maybe i should try that again now i reinstalled? the control center app is now gone and the download like i had expired so maybe the bios wont behave as though the control center app is still there...not sure, im at a loss...
