Went into building and testing on the 22nd working day. Was packed and dispatched on the 23rd. Should be arriving in 1 hour via DPD on the 24th working day! It was originally predicted to be built today so hats off to PC Specialist!

Thank you for the tips. No idea on base price of the processors at PCS, but using the configure tool, the 3600X comes out £90 more expensive than the 3600. A quick look via google (can't be sure the parts advertised are exactly the ones PCS use), the price difference seems to be around £50-60...

I was able to find my old gfx card from the loft yesterday. Surprisingly it actually worked perfectly. This would suggest that my 970 GTX is the culprit and therefore kaput.

Thank you for the reply! I now have a replacement cooler on its way. Hopefully it can get a a bit longer out of my system. I'm happy to wait if something big like those new AMD products are around the corner. I see this as a long term investment so I want to get the best possible for my budget.
