PC Upgrade

As my old PC is coming to the end of its lifespan, I'm trying to piece together a new one.

The new pc will be used for gaming as well as office work. I use a two monitor setup with both being IIyama E2473. The resolution of 1920 x 1080 is absolutely fine. I have no want for anything higher.

I have read the various guides and put together the PC below. My only concerns are the lack of cooling, though I note members on here say the standard cooler for 3600X is very good. Also, a question over M2 SSD and whether they are truly worth it.

I have a budget of £1350.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Can you copy the configuration link at the bottom of the build so we can edit it?

That's a shame about your 970, but your old build had done pretty well!

Aye, 9 years of my I5 2500k going at 4.2ghz. Very very happy. More than value for money.

Have updated the post with the link.

Actually there's not really much to change, only thing I'd suggest is the next wifi card up as it's much more modern for modern standard support, I think it's an extra £9

I wouldn't worry about the extra case fans personally. And yes, the stock cooler on the 3600x is very good.

Thank you for the advice! I will add the next wifi card up. PC is normally connected via an ethernet cable but you never know when wifi will come in handy.

I forgot to ask about processor cooling? My old computer used a liquid cooling system which I found to work extremely well. I presume this would be overkill for the above spec?

My only other concern was around the gpu. I presume the 1660 GTX Super will have a HDMI port which will be fine for one of my monitors. However, does the version that PCS stock include a DVI port or will I need an adaptor?

How much is the X coming in at now? Its generally not worth it when there's a substantial difference in cost. The 3600 vs the 3600X has next to no power impact at all, there is a measurable difference in benchmarking but that's about it.

As suggested above, the rest is pretty good other than the Wifi card (if required, otherwise just drop it). The paste probably isn't worth it either, the pre-applied solution seems to do just fine and you won't need to worry about poor application (quite common IME).

Thank you for the tips.

No idea on base price of the processors at PCS, but using the configure tool, the 3600X comes out £90 more expensive than the 3600.

A quick look via google (can't be sure the parts advertised are exactly the ones PCS use), the price difference seems to be around £50-60.

Aye, I could do without the wifi capability. My router is one lean from my actual PC. Could be be nice to have it though encase I ever move.

That's definitely not worth it then, it was £50 on release day which wasn't worth it, but then it went down to £10 or so for a while. I'd defininitely drop down to 3600.

I will give PCS a ring on Monday to see what GPUs they are stocking.

I have looked at reviews of the 3600 vs the 3600x. The difference appears minimal though the 3600x does have a much better cooler. That said, the consensus seems to be unless the price difference is minimal, go for the 3600, which is what I think I will do.
