    Have you tried holding down the power button for 10 seconds? That is often a means for a hard power off when a laptop has issues shutting down.

    If you are fairly sure it is coming from the PSU, might be worth shining a torch into the rear PSU grill to see if you can see anything moving in sync with the knocking noise. Of course, keep a distance from the PSU.

    Out of interest, with the room darkened, if you look into the rear of the PSU (obviously not too close) do you see any arcing or sparking when the knocking is happening?

    One thing we can try before that. In Device Manager, find the WiFi adapter, right click and select Properties. In the window that pops up, is there a power management tab? If so, can you deselect the option to allow Windows to turn off the device?
