Boom - that fixed it, thanks. Really odd that F4 switched it off but wouldn’t switch it back on again. I think...

No reference to WiFi in the bios. There’s not much in there at all.

PCSPECIALIST SOLVED: WiFi hardware switch - it really should not be this hard!

Screenshots are tricky with WiFi down, but here’s a picture. There’s one at the top of the thread with a couple of other windows included.

Apparently nothing. Randomly tried FN + Shift + F4 then FN + CTRL + F4 as well, and F4 on its own. Sigh. I have 24 minutes to go on an attempt to switch it on “after 1 hour”. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the suggestions. Device manager shows the card as present and correct. There have been no driver updates since 16 May (no windows updates of any kind since 16 May). I’d happily choose the option to Turn WiFi back on “In 1 hour” instead of manually. I can select this and move the...

PCSPECIALIST SOLVED: WiFi hardware switch - it really should not be this hard!

Thanks for the response. It’s an Optimus custom build. On method 1, the right-click results in a menu that allows me to disable the WiFi rather than enable it, so that’s one potential issue eliminated as the problem. On method 2, WLAN Autoconfig has a status of running. I think you’re...

PCSPECIALIST SOLVED: WiFi hardware switch - it really should not be this hard!

I appear to have disabled WiFi, possibly by accidentally using Function-F4 on my keyboard. Despite a lot of faffing around, I’m unable to switch it back on again. Feeling like a complete numpty, but I’m out of ideas and haven‘t come up with any useful search results.

PCSPECIALIST NVIDIA graphics card not detected.

Well that’s annoying - after a couple more glitches and reinstalled drivers, I decided to do a system restore to factory defaults. I then downloaded the GeForce installation package but it failed to install the drivers because it couldn’t detect an NVIDIA graphics card. Not my boys‘ fault...

OK - we‘re back in business! Once I’d run DDU, it was possible to reinstall NVIDIA GeForce Experience and download the GPU drivers. Whatever had interfered with them in the first place was corrected by the reinstallation and fresh download. I’m not convinced it’s properly fixed, but Windows...

Progress, at last. Not much, but maybe a lead. After running DDU*, I’ve checked System information. I now have two Display drivers listed, but one of them is under “Problem Devices”: NVDIA USB Type-C Port Policy Controller, error code “Failure using the VxD loader”. Let’s see where this...

They are both pretty useful on PCs. I’m encouraging them to get stuck in on their own machines. Often the best way to learn is to make a mistake. It’s tricky when you’re travelling and they only have access to a laptop that’s suddenly non-functional.

I’m new to DDU. I suspect it won’t work once the NVIDIA drivers have been uninstalled another way. Could I be wrong?

Remarkably, we’ve not been using this machine very long, so a reinstall wouldn’t be a total nightmare. I’ll check what reinstall capability it came with.

No. Someone started this process without me present. 😀🙄 A bunch of Steam games: Rainbow 6 Siege, Aim Lab, Among Us, Destiny 2, Five Nights At Freddie’s, Brawlhalla, PokeMMO And some utilities: Razer Synapse, Discord, Uplay I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few I haven’t found out about...

PCSPECIALIST NVIDIA graphics card not detected.

Hi, My graphics card has vanished! 😬 It’s a NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2060 - 6.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1. Failed attempt to resolve the situation so far includes: 1. Checking it’s not defaulting to the onboard graphics in BIOS. There are no relevant BIOS settings... 2. Uninstalling and...
