Thanks for the replies. I did try all of the repair options I could see but nothing worked so I ended up rebuilding my software platform from the provided USB recovery key. Interesting about the reseating issue, I had done all of the work before I saw that so will try it if I run into trouble...

Doh! I just looked at the most recent screen shots and I see that the USB drive did actually show up on the list when I went into the sub menu that time. It wasn't showing up before even though it had been connected. Going to try and get the system back up now. I will be back if I hit any problem.
