PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Audio upgrade ... or how do I connect 5.1 speakers to my motherboard/future soundcard

Thanks I had no idea it might be 'retro'. I've also ordered a SPDIF RCA/Optical Out Back Plate to try a Toslink connector. The HDMI connection makes a 'switching' sound frequently when transitioning from playing to not playing. Pausing music provokes this. The digital signal might bypass this...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Audio upgrade ... or how do I connect 5.1 speakers to my motherboard/future soundcard

All done and working via HDMI. I needed to remove the case and carefully vacuum the contents as it frankly looked like a fire risk or at minimum a shorting hazard, after four years sitting neglected in the loft room. Just the cabling to neaten up tomorrow. Youtube Music confused me for a while...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Audio upgrade ... or how do I connect 5.1 speakers to my motherboard/future soundcard

Excellent thanks. I already have a hdmi cable long enough so this is next weeks project. This is a lot more straightforward than I'd managed to make it. I'll give my wife the good news that she is going to get some good sounding amazon budget speakers.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Audio upgrade ... or how do I connect 5.1 speakers to my motherboard/future soundcard

The Onkyo is the TX-SR607 (manual here (pdf)). Toslink isn't mentioned by name, however, page 11 shows a digital connection that looks like the plug on the left. My motherboard doesn't have the other end though so it looks like a soundcard with one would be needed? A single cable connection...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Audio upgrade ... or how do I connect 5.1 speakers to my motherboard/future soundcard

Thanks for the prompt reply. My use case is mixed so I think the Onkyo is going to get a new lease of life. The logitech looks nice and compact, however, I'm too tight to spend money if I can repurpose existing equipment. Time to dump books elsewhere and digitize some DVDs before they join the...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Audio upgrade ... or how do I connect 5.1 speakers to my motherboard/future soundcard

The equipment so far: Motherboard (ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4) with High fidelity audio with ALC4080 with Savitech SV3H712 amplifier (from PC Specialist) Unused Canton Movie 80 CX with red-black wire connections The issues: The amplifier is designed for headphones I think ... from these...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST There's a hole in my motherboard ...

Space in case 341mm. Length of card 320mm. It fits if I rotate the radiator back to the original position. It is a contender although I'm now in the ridiculous position of planning upgrades based on colour.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST There's a hole in my motherboard ...

Yes certainly. It is only where it is now to allow me to position it anywhere within the case. Its final home will probably be plugged in to the Corsair fan controller.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST There's a hole in my motherboard ...

It happened partly by accident. The case was available in white, when I needed it. It had white fans (the rear white one which I replaced with a black Noctua). I noticed the motherboard, while an upgrade to what I had planned, was also white/brushed metal on black. So I upgraded for ascetics...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST The 3050 is out... And unsurprisingly it's better than the 6500XT!

:) I'll try to wait for Intel to do their thing before making any decisions. Plenty of old games with little to no GPU demands to keep me occupied until then.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST There's a hole in my motherboard ...

... waiting for the right GPU. During the prebuild I made several changes to the order. After receipt I made several changes to the internals. The use case is initially some number crunching / optimization then in a few months likely will switch to light gaming (more likely starting with a...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST The 3050 is out... And unsurprisingly it's better than the 6500XT!

Added to the graphics card options for £363. Buy now or wait for Arc? Overpriced or fairly priced? Same as a PS5 from Argos ... I'm in no hurry to buy but scarcity might prevent a future opportunity.

This is what I went with for USB C https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-z690-a-gaming-wifi-d4-model/spec Edit : oops that is for Intel. Is there a version for AMD?

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Pre Production

Once I know it is working correctly post tinkering/checking I'll post. I took before and after shots. I was a bit worried before I opened it up as it had an intermittent rattle. I thought probably a loose screw, however, it turned out it was a cut cable tie. It was intermittent as it was in the...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Pre Production

Mine arrived this morning. I've spent the day cutting cable ties, adding a fan and vertically rotating the AIO (so that the in/out to the radiator is at the bottom (pump is not the highest part of the system)). Mostly though I've been trying to reconcile ASUS motherboard AOI instructions for...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST The 6500XT Is Out.... It's Pretty Embarassing

I plan to wait for the 3050 vs A380 (Intel Alchemist) showdown. One of them might be suitable for me. I'd hoped the RX 6500 XT would also be a contender, however, cutting memory and bandwidth seems to be a strategic error (I think they may have got away with just cutting memory by a couple of GB...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST i9 12900k rtx - 3D rendering rig

Ha. I made 12 sub orders (not counting the credit notes) as I justified on a daily basis 'stuff I needed that I was previously unaware of'. I'm frankly happy mine is finally being built as there is no longer any need to prevaricate over the power needs of a graphics card that hasn't even been...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST i9 12900k rtx - 3D rendering rig

Hi. Experts will follow. They will ask for the link to the configurator (at the bottom of where you copied the above). Your motherboard has 4 "M.2 Ultra Storage Performance Connectors" = PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 . These are way faster than SATA so you might want to consider using two of them and...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Pre Production

It does allow you to tweak the build :) So far after reading about NVMe SSD drives, PSUs & volume levels, AIOs, RAM, overclocking etc.. I've tweaked my way to spending an extra £500. I'm at peak spend now. I think. Unless an acceptable 'budget' graphics card drops or processor prices shift...
