Thanks se-en: which distro did you install, and did you have any problems? Which kernel? Does your machine have the same "INTEL® Wi-Fi 6E AX211 (2.4 Gbps) + BT 5.3" network card?
I went to try an ethernet test last night... and at that point realised there is no socket on these 14" machines! So...
Summary:
"nomodeset" and "nomodeset xforcevesa" both boot. Touchpad works. No wifi.
Recovery mode boots, no touchpad, no wifi.
"nouveau.noaccel=1" instead of "nomodeset": fails to boot
"noapic noacpi nosplash irqpoll" instead of "quiet splash": fails to boot
Starting in compatibility mode: booted! But no touchpad.
So tried a reboot, "e" in the GRUB menu, removed "quiet" and added "nomodeset xforcevesa" (following https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=122257)
This worked, and I have touchpad. The screen is 800x600.
