PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Power lead fuse keeps blowing

Even back in my C & G days I found the information confusing and contradictory. "The fuse in a plug is a safety device designed to protect the lead rather than the appliance." But then the water gets muddied by adding in reference to appliances... "It is a deliberate weak link in a circuit...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Power lead fuse keeps blowing

I finally got around to installing my "Pride and joy" in it's permanent home and part of the process included changing the power ("kettle") lead as the one I'd included in my PCS order wouldn't reach. The other 2 I had (supplied with my 2 previous Dells) had 5 AMP fuses but the new one had a 13...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

You know that, I know that and lots of other people know that but for those that don't, I thought it worthwhile posting it somewhere so that they might find it. In fact, I managed to become a "published author" (no autograph requests please ;) ) when Computer Active printed a "letter" of mine...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

Being a mere mortal, I can’t post this in one of the higher threads – The PCS Welcome Booklet supplied with my order, includes a hyperlink to a download page on their website. Along with the “drivers” the text makes reference to, in my case (and I assume the same for most), there is also...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

The mist clears - it wasn't the pipework that was the problem, it is, the radiator, or more precisely, the radiator fan - The ends of the non-RGB sticks tuck under the fan.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

Hold that thought. One could but this one can’t as my “pride and joy” is now into the testing and configuration stage. 💗 If I find £160 (for the 2 x 16 kit) down the back of the settee and am feeling very, very brave, maybe one of these days I’ll have a go at swapping it over. As discussed...

Just been on to PCS and the answer is that the 2 x 16 sets stocked are AMD specific so the amendment stands.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

All very true (apart from the last bit). However, PCS don't offer 2 x 16 non-RGB in 3200MHz. I noted that, after lots of Googling, I didn't foresee a problem with the H100i as the pipework attaches to the cooling head with 90 degree elbows and doesn't foul any RAM sticks I could find images of...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

Turns out, that last bit is wrong. The good news is that the build is on, the bad(ish) news is that the RGB sticks and cooler won't fit in together so the RAM loses and it's back to 4 x 8 non-RGB.

I'd like to say a heartfelt thanks for all of the help and you in particular 🙇‍♂️ . I’ve got the feeling we’d be good friends if we weren’t separated by an internet connection. Tomorrow is P day (proceed 💸 ). Strangely, I’ve enjoyed the downs just as much as the ups of the spec. tweaking. Tech...

Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs! The very case (though not the solid black version). "All things come to those who wait." That's some memory you've got there! As you say, in the absence of any definitive air flow design there are the options of removing the PSU shroud and drive cage.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

I went for 4 x 8 as it was non-RGB and not as tall but as noted previously re the H100i, I can turn the lighting off, it leaves the other 2 slots free and the pipework shouldn't be a problem. Any comments from anyone on the fan layout? The build will have 120mm 1200 RPM fans front and back...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Have I been naughty or nice?

Have we met? 'Cos it sounds like you know me 😊 I do think too much, as a perfectionist, I struggle to let go of something and let someone else do it, which is why the original, original plan, was to self-build. The reasons why I binned that idea are the very reasons you note – PCS (who already...

Apologies for the delay, this Christmas thing really gets in the way of my Geeking. 🤓 Getting this spec. sorted is like trying to eat jelly with a fork…😣 Having some sort of set base point to work from (the i9-9900K on a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO), my original posted build included 64GB (4 x 16)...
