10 best FREE software programs to install on a new PC

Okay come on, we all like lists. I thought this could be a fun one to start a new thread. As the title states - so list away!

Here's mine -

1. AVG Free Antivirus
(I've used quite a few free ones over the years, AVG being my antivirus of choice for the last five years. Always seems to have done a good job)
2. VLC media player
(I honestly can't remember what I used to use before this. Possibly the bog standard Windows movie player. Anyway, again I've been using VLC for about four years or so and love it)
3. Apache OpenOffice
(I use Office 365 mostly, but Apache OpenOffice is a good backup.)
4. Paint.Net
(for quickies)
5. GIMP
(for the full photoshop alternative. Still frustrating that it does not have an equivalent of Photoshop's 'liquify' but hey, it's free and quite powerful)
6. MAME
(Started using this when it was a DOS command line. Think around 0.35 or so when it was huge news that Ghosts & Goblins was the latest game it could run!)
7. KODI
8. Notepad++
(who needs expensive IDE's when this beauty does such a fine job?)
9. CCleaner
10. CrashPlan
(Great free backup tool)

Avast AV - never had a good experience with AVG and have seen it cause so many issues for so many people. Got sick of Avira's adverts. No complaints about Avast though.

avidemux - for editing down saved gameplay footage

Malwarebytes

MSI afterburner (inc RSS) and HWinfo. Possibly cheating as that's 3, but in my mind they're all essential.

Thunderbird- 'nuff said

GPU-Z

NvidiaInspector - Multi monitor powersaving is useful, not just for multi monitor issues. Plus game profiles.

FO4/TESVEdit - specific to modding certain games

Mod Organiser - same

Ungine Valley - most would probably go with 3Dmark, Firestrike, etc.
