Hi
I currently have a great Desktop PC setup:
However I will now be travelling a lot and therefore I won’t have as much access to my desktop. Therefore I now need to get a laptop.
I have a budget of around £1500 for a new laptop. I also have a friend who has offered to buy my desktop for £1200 if I do decide to sell it, which means I could push the budget to £2700.
This means I have 2 options:
At the moment I am thinking of keeping my desktop and getting a 15" laptop, but I figured I may as well get other people's opinions before making up my mind!
Thanks!
I currently have a great Desktop PC setup:
- Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Clocked at 4.00GHz)
- ATI Radeon HD 5870
- 6 GB DDR3 Memory
- 120 Gb Intel Solid State HDD
- 3 x BenQ G2420HDBL 24" Widescreen LED Monitors for massive desktop space and Eyefinity gaming

This means I have 2 options:
- Option 1 : Sell my desktop and get a top of the line laptop 17” Desktop Replacement laptop for £2700
- Option 2 : Keep my desktop but get a “decent” 15” laptop for £1500 and then keep using my Desktop as and when I can

- If you were me, which option would you go for?!
- I’m guessing a 17” desktop replacement laptop is not ideal for use as a “laptop”, ie duer to it's size and how hot it could get it needs to be on a desk most the time and I will not really be able to use it on my lap?
- I’m guessing a 17” desktop replacement laptop will not be as powerful as my current desktop, roughly how much more powerful would the desktop be compared to the 17” desktop replacement laptop?
- If I went for a 15” laptop, I would want it to be a “laptop”, ie fairly portable and will be used on my lap mostly. I wouldn’t worry about it being able to run the latest and greatest games, but I would like it to be able to run Starcraft 2 and some FPS games. Which laptop would you recommend for this?
Thanks!
