So firstly i'd like to state that my previous laptop was bought in 2013. An asus sporting a gtx 770m and an i7 4700 2.4ghz. I actually felt quite guilty buying a new laptop as it is still genuinely running like a dream, all the newest games on 20fps on low. Haha.

Two friends of mine had previously bought a laptop and a PC through PCSPECIALIST so I took their recommendation.

When price comparing other laptops, I got more bang for buck with PCSPECIALIST. MSI and other brands usually have a 256gb ssd with a 1tb HDD and in 2020 I wasn't feeling a HDD. If you were to look for an rtx 2070 over a 2060 you’d also be looking at paying £2000 + premade or a wait time of june july with PCSPECIALIST

15” are a different topic, you can get better specs inside but I chose 17” as I stare at it all day and I don’t have space for a monitor as my work takes me north and south on a weekly basis.I’m not a professional technie or a youtuber but hopefully this may help you make a decision.

Specs and cost.

1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W

The build time from start to dispatch was 11 working days. The order was created on the12th of April and it arrived on the 28th of April. It arrived the next day with DPD. No qualms there. I had around 6 days before assembly to make changes and tweaks, such as changing the ram from single channel to dual, and changing from two 660p SSD’s to a mix. The live graph and constant emails with the progress of your laptop was a nice touch.

In terms of size take a look at the (badly angled) photo to see the difference in size with my 17” asus. The new laptop is also extremely light and has a nice feel to it.

The monitor is also gorgeous with 144hz. Don’t let the lack of IPS panel put you off. I saw ZERO colour distortion from different angles but I know IPS has other benefits.

It does only have 3 USB ports, two being USB 3.0. Using your wired mouse, wired headset and a laptop cooler, you’ve ran out of ports! Haha. A usb hub will fix that. The ports are quite “tight” and it takes effort to remove your devices.

The laptop comes with a software called Control Centre which I assume is PCSPECIALIST/Clevo specific. It allows you to set the colour of your RGB. It also has 3 “operating modes”. One for study / lecture halls where the fans won’t attract attention, and two for gaming. The button with the orange light next to the power button switches the operating modes. TURBO is full orange, Gaming mode is half orange and study is off.

The most useful feature of control centre is the ability to see the temperatures and load of your GPU and CPU.

In terms of testing. I was a bit clueless how to use OCCT but I set it to small data set.

Here is a link to my USERBENCHMARK.

CPU thermals

CPU IDLE - 46
GPU IDLE - 39

I noticed while playing Mordhau on ultra the cpu would reach 90-94 degrees.
Alien Isolation around 80 degrees
Dead by Daylight 90 degrees (surely not that much of a cpu intensive game!?)

However I noticed that my laptop was pretty silent throughout all the games...

I used OCCT to do a stress test and I noticed the fans DO NOT kick in even when the CPU on 100% power/process with it reaching 93 degrees. I had to manually enable the fan boost in the control Centre interface which cooled it to 80 degrees. On Mordhau it cooled it to 64 degrees (unsure what cpu % mordhau was using)

I’’m not too sure why the fans won’t kick in. I’ve contact PCSPECIALIST about this and will edit my post.

Using OCCT and my laptop cooler (Kilm Cyclone) it was still reaching 91 degrees. I also noticed no difference in temperature in games with the cooler or not. But I will still keep using it.

I can’t really comment on the GPU as I didn’t stress test it but in Mordhau it was also reaching 90 degrees, and it was either 1-2 below or 1-2 above the cpu temp at all times on different games.

If it's reaching 90 degrees on the idle fan (which is pretty quiet) then i'm sure i'll get a reasonable temperature back once the fan issue is addressed because remember once the fan boost is manually activated, it's cooling mordhau very well.

I would ideally like to undervolt the CPU to reduce the temperature but what with this being an 10th gen Intel, that’s sadly not possible at this time. A youtuber has figured out how to do with an MSI laptop in the bios however.

In conclusion. I can’t actually give you real CPU temps if the fan doesn’t kick in during video games. but I do love this laptop. It’s sharp and FAST and I will make it last 7 years for sure. Check back when I get an answer about the fans.

If there's anything you'd like me to test, please provide a detailed explanation on how to do and I'll try for you.

After two phone calls with tech support - laptop is being returned as they couldn't fix the fan issue.
Sorry no one answered you..... I wonder what's going on with that fan, that's certainly not good. Glad they're taking it back to have a thorough look at it!
