yo guys

Im not sure what resolution is but I know that 1920 x 1080 means that you can play in 1080p HD, atleast I think that. But when ever I see benchmarks on games they use a resolution of
1920 x 1200 - what is the difference ? If your playing on 1 screen Im geussing 1920 x1200 is a normal res to use and more screens means a bigger resolution. I know when I play total war MD2 if I decrease the res the game screen gets smaller and the rest of the un-used screen becomes black. But I still dont have a clue when I look at these numbers ..derp..derp..derp

The difference between 1920x1080 and 1920x1200, is just that the 1920x1200 is a deeper resolution size is comparison with the width.

Basically the first number is the number of pixels along the width of the screen, the second number is the number of pixels along the height/depth of the screen.
So if you decrease the resolution basically what you're doing is trying to squish everything into a smaller space :)

I would say that 1920x1080 is more common than 1920x1200, mostly because most of the monitors out there are 1920x1080 rather than 1200.
The 1200 ones obviously have more pixels therefore they can fit more stuff on the screen, maybe that why some of the benchmarks are using them, because it works the graphics cards a bit harder

So monitors, like some from PCS, that are 1900x1080p can only play at that resolution ? Im also geussing that if I play a game at 1900x1080 res it would take up the full screen. And since its smaller 1900x1080 puts less stress on the GPU meaning more fps.

To extend what Rakk said it just depends on if you have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (1920x1080) or 16:10 (1920x1200).

Monitors that are 1920x1080 can display that resolution and any resolution smaller. Yes a game running at 1920x1080 would fill the whole screen of your monitor. Yes the lower the resolution, the less stress is put on the GPU.

It's purely about aspect ratio, 1920x1200 is your standard 16:10 aspect ratio, and 1900x1080 is your more typical widescreen ( like televisions).

it affects the shape of the image in a screen of identical size, but other than that there isn't a whole world of difference, as a matter of personal preference Movies and cinematics tend to look better on widescreen 16:10 ratios, whilst games seem to look more 'normal' on a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, both will still look good doing whatever so long as the quality of the screen is good.

(This is based on what I've seen between my xps 1730's 1920x1200 screen, my BenQ 1900x1080 monitor, and my 1080P Phillips Tv x3)

bigger numbers = more pixels = you can fit more clarity into a given space, the balance between the two numbers defines how the image stretches out, but at the end of the day, no matter what you do, it'll all look good on any given setup.

the only slight thing to consider is that some RTS games, particularly ones like Starcraft II or Warcraft, will give you black bars when using a widescreen definition on either side of the screen, or 'stretches' a normal definition image acrost your widescreen resolution because to show you more of a screen would give you a supposed in game advantage over someone who has less screen space.. varies by game, and there are usually workarounds available.
