1Tb+ 2.5" Hard Drive

Where do I find a 2.5 inch 1Tb+ 7200rpm hard drive for my Defiance? PC Specialist only does up to 500Gb 7200rmp hard drives at this size.

Ps. Sorry if i'm not allowed to post this on here as it isn't about buying from PCS

Edit: After a quick look, it's hard to find a 1tb 7200 drive, they seem to max out at 750Gb and then the higher size ones are all 5400rpm drives.

You can now get a 1TB WD Black 2.5" 7200 drive (9.5mm) - and I do believe PCS has them.......

Which HDDs are available for the Octanes and Defiances are slightly different. It's my impression that's been the case for some time as well.

The 15.6" Defiance configurator (and presumably upgrade options for existing defiances) offers only the WD Blue and not the WD Black at 1TB:
1TB WD SLIM BLUE
6 Gb/s
1000 GB
5,400 RPM
16 MB
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/matrix/391/5/1/0/

But the 15.6" Octane page offers:
1TB WD BLACK WD10JPLX
6 GB/s
1TB
7,200 RPM
32 MB

You can also get 1TB WD Blacks with the 17.3" Defiances. Just not the 15.6" ones.

At a guess this is because the 750gb and 1tb HD Blacks are 9.5mm rather than 7mm thick: https://www.wdc.com/content/dam/wdc/website/downloadable_assets/eng/spec_data_sheet/2879-771435.pdf and perhaps the Defiance 15.6" chassis only takes 7mm drives.

That said the Clevo spec page for the 15.6" Defiance III chassis does suggest one of the bays fits a 9.5mm drive: http://www.clevo.com/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=937&lang=en

i haven't seen them at more than 500Gb, an I was going for a Tb as it was just as i didn't think of 750Gb ones

Western Digital do the 9mm WD Black at 750Gb which is a fast 7200rpm drive, it's the best mobile drive out there, got a few myself, would recommend, but depends on which chassis you have.

Although if it's possible to fit a 9mm drive into the chassis and you go for a 750gb WD Black, you might as well go for a 1tb WD Black as it's a small % increase in price for a 33% increase in storage capacity - and also has double the cache.

Absolutely

Just picked up a couple of the 1TB WD Blacks and they are well worth it, as Oussebon said 33% more capacity and double the cache for not much more.

I can't actually find any of the 1Tb ones and have only managed to find one of the 750Gb ones after about half an hour of searching. It would appear the in the UK there is a lack of laptop drives over 500Gb at 7200rpm

I have the WD 7200rpm 1TB HDD in my octane - it's a really nice HDD - I'd recommend it if you can source one... Have you spoken to PCS about it?

I'm pretty sure that's accurate, defiance only takes 7mm drives.

In my Defiance II I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SATA-Compatible-Internal-Drive/dp/B00I8O6OQ4 which is a 9.5mm drive.

I also have 2 x m2 500GB and 1 x Crucial M500 1TB SATA SSD

It's a 5400 RPM drive but high capacity. I'll be honest, I put all of my Steam games on there and it's not exactly slow to load them.

Just found a 7200RPM Hitachi Travelstar but the specs on Amazon say 9x7x1cm so may be too thick https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-HT...0*1000*GB-HARDDRIVE-2-5*Serial/dp/B00B4QESVQ/

The M500 is a 7mm drive isn't it? Where it's installed in your Defiance II, do you use the 9.5mm adapter with it or is that bay only 7mm? Out of interest. :)

Yeah it is only 7mm but both drives went in fine with just the PCS supplied bracket...from memory it was just a single bracket that they both screwed into but I'd have to open her up and check as it was well over a year ago. :)
