3080 build

Hello all.

So, after 4 months of research and creating multiple builds with complete different specs I finally pulled the pin a few weeks back and put the order in. Probably like almost everyone that has an order on pre-production I have amended the build a few times as either change of mind on certain things or to try optimise as best I can.

PC will mainly be used for gaming (huge variety of games some need the RAM!) and also I do 4K video editing and picture editing at hobby level. The PC will also be used to run security scans and penetration tests.

I’ll be pairing this build with a LG 38GN950-B monitor. Not quite 4k (runs at 1600p) but I’m hoping better 4k UW monitors become available in the next year. Any pointers on the below or anything I have missed then glad for the input.

That’s a very solid build. The only thing I’d reconsider is the two M.2 drives. The 500GB Samsung 980 is perfect as your primary but the 2TB Firecuda is a little overkill as the secondary, even with DirectStorage on the horizon with Windows 11. Doing a switcheroo to a 2TB Intel 670 or Samsung 970 would be a sensible move. It’d also avoid the potential pitfall of your OS being installed on the fastest drive, that is the usual modus operandi with PCS.

I have changed storage options about 5 times, if it showed all my storage changes you would laugh! Iv already asked PCS to install OS on the 500GB drive and they have put a note against it. Long story short is I need the 530 due to the data recovery that comes with it (no competitor offers the data recovery warranty that Seagate do). Unfortunately I have been seriously burnt by this before and would like to limit this happening again! Unless you see a huge issue with having it in the build? Nothing cropped up about system issues with it as a secondary m.2 nvme drive that I saw anyways but happy to take advice.

Very similar to my built except I'm on the 3080 Ti and using it with Alienware AW3821DW which is the same panel as the LG minus the overclock refresh rate and it's working damn fine. You'll love your built.
