3080TI Build - Any advice appreciated!

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall a thread bemoaning the value of the 3080TI. It said that there was only a small performance gain for a lot of money. Others may be able to point you to the relevant thread or give you an alternative opinion.

It’s pretty much the same as a 3090 for gaming, so around 10% improvement over the 3080.

But you do want the best card you can afford for MSFS

Personally I would have kept the HDD over the SSD assuming its for general storage and nothing that requires the speed of an SSD

Honestly, and it may sound pedantic, but I didn't want any hdd mechanical noise so that's what made me go for the ssd. Plenty of opportunity for expansion in the future if required but at this time a total of 3.5TB seemed plentiful.

It’s a lovely build. Will absolutely fly!

i decided against HDD myself too. SSD is the future and they are quite more affordable nowadays. Do keep in mind one thing, SSDs need a power or they will lose data overtime. If you plan to store something long term externally, SSD is a no go :)

Also, the main reason people still suggest HDDs over SSDs for storage is that when an SSD fails, it just fails and it’s the whole drive that dies.

HDDs tend to deteriorate sector by sector so you get warning long before the drive failed and have time to replace it.

to be fair, you do get warnings for SSDs too, most if not all modern SSDs use the S.M.A.R.T system to report errors

Doesn’t work though, I know from experience. It’s a brand new thing and only markers one failure type. It’s not ready for real world scenarios atm.

hm, pretty sure i seen the warning online that SSD is failing to do backup and replacement, either way, the chances this will happen are very very slim. On top of that anyone who is buying a system like that probably knows to do backups or cloud storage. Microsoft does it even itself with onedrive by default

but fair

Yeah, absolutely. No matter what drive type you have, a good backup solution is a pre requisite.

It looks like a monster build. Now you have the fun of making multiple amendments and second guessing yourself while waiting for it to be built.

definitely no idea what you are talking about xD

Hi everyone. Quick question regarding fan configuration for the 5000x case (I've had this on order for a couple of weeks now). I've opted for 1 extra thermal take fan for exhaust as the 5000x doesn't have a fan for the rear.

However do you reckon I should add more fans (e.g corsair rgb) to be side mounted or will the current configuration be sufficient?

I'm trying to be cautious about having a good balance of RGB (not too much) but maintain a "cool" looking build with strong cooling. I'm not familiar with thermal take and given my build has quite a lot of corsair elements to it am I missing a trick?

Thanks for any advice!

The current amount of fans will be absolutely fine, you’ll be okay. For aesthetic loveliness, you could potentially do what I did, I just bought an additional Corsair LL120 fan and fitted it myself. I believe that the Capellix coolers come with the Commander Pro node so you can feed a new fan into that and enjoy the integration via iCue 👍
