3D max system advice please

Hi all, about to order the below system for basic visualisation on 3dmax and photoshop
Any advice would be gratefully received.


I’ve been lurking on the forum, using the wealth of knowledge on here and think I’ve saved money in the right places.
Again any advice would be great.

I'm not well versed at all in the professional GPU options so I'll presume you know what you're selecting a lot better than I would recommend there.

This is an occasion where 32GB of RAM might be beneficial. What sort of resolution are you going to be working in? 4K? 3D Max & Photoshop would make good use of 32GB for larger projects.

For storage, I would personally want a scratch disk. 256GB would probably suit just fine. Another of those ADATA SX6000 m2 drives would suit nicely.

If the projects are large I would recommend a H100i RGB Platinum cooler. It's an excellent cooler and it will help keep case temps in check during long renders. The 3700X doesn't need such a good cooler but it comes with near silent fans which fit well with the R6 case.

If you need wireless I would consider the AX200 Wifi card over the generic one. It's very slow and not really any use for anything but periodic connection. If you're wired then it may be worth keeping just in case, otherwise you could save the £ and the PCIe slot.

Thanks for the reply.

I’m now having a last minute wobble and thinking of going for a RTX 2060 super as there is a lot of debate on the benefits of or ‘lack of’ a Quadro with certified drivers over a ‘gaming’ gpu.
I really only do basic 3d max work and most renders are less than 5 minutes even with the dinosaur of a system I use at the moment.
With the geforce card at least I/kids could do a bit of gaming on it.
If I go for the geforce would a X570 m/b be more suitable?

Not working at 4K or anything fancy either, will probably purchase a nice ultra wide monitor in the future.

Latest option as below, price comes out about the same.

You don't need the X570 for any scenario other than for incredibly fast storage. The B450 handles everything admirably. The X570 is a fantastic motherboard and definitely recommended for the very high end of the AMD offerings but at this level for what you have described I think it would be a waste of money if you aren't going to use any of the specific features.

With your professional application in mind I think the 2060 Super is a fair shout. With an ultrawide monitor you are likely looking at 1440P so the 2060 is well matched for a bit of relaxed gaming IMO.

Another re-think!
I’m now thinking of going for a Ryzen 5, do I really need the 7?

The thinking is any extra money saved needs to go towards an ultra wide monitor.

In this budget build I’ve saved around £400 over what I might of spent,

Yeah that'll do the job nicely. The 3700X was your original selection and well placed for professional applications but if it's fairly light use then the 3600 is more than enough. The same with the scratch disk, if you're not into heavy use then a scratch disk won't really make too much difference to you, it's more for large projects where lots of read/writes are required. Having a spare channel makes a huge difference to performance but only where relative.

I would definitely consider better Wifi.
