4K 120Hz?

Hi guys,

Over the past year of owning an RTX 2060 gaming laptop I've decided to take the plunge and get a full size gaming PC and sell the laptop.

Would REALLY appreciate some advice on this, its not the sort of money I spend everyday and I've saved a few months for this so want to make sure I don't have buyers remorse!

I have an LG OLED B9 which could do up to 4K 120hz with HDMI 2.1, so I've pretty much made up my mind on getting the 3080 as the graphics card and using the LG effectively as a monitor. I'm aware of burn in risk etc so have tried to mitigate that where I can. (ignore 2080TI in the spec sheet, its the only way I could proceed to post on forum). With it being a big screen, achieving 4k 60 is important to me in most AAA games. My max budget is £2.5k but ideally nearer 2k. Also want to stick with Ryzen and make the most of PCIE 4. I've broken down in a bit more detail about my selection:

Case:
I don't know where to start with this, picked one that was fairly pricey at random in the hope it would have decent cooling. Help needed.

CPU and Cooler:
I don't want to spend money when I don't have to. I've gone with the 3900X but any recommendations to pair with a 3080 would help. I'd probably play a few titles at high refresh 1440p so won't always be GPU bottlenecked. I've no plans to OC GPU or CPU, however it would be nice to have a nice cool system coming from my laptop which constantly thermal throttles. Cooler advice would be appreciated.

Motherboard:
Honestly just picked the cheapest PCIE 4.0 I could find, any help welcome.

RAM:
I know most recommend 16GB only but I'll be playing a lot of FS2020 which I believe is bottlenecked on 16GB? Which is why I have selected the 32GB option I'm also torn between 3200mhz and 3600mhz, as I know faster is better with Ryzen but am unsure whether they'll be a tangible difference.

1st Storage Drive:
Put this as a 2TB SATA, I'd like at least something with 2TB to store backup games on. Realistically I'd only use this to ferry my games to and from my SSD to save downloading them again.

M2 SSD Drive:

I've put a PCIE 4.0 SSD here which will also obviously be my boot drive

Power Supply:
I know the 3080 is power hungry but with power supplies being expensive at the moment I don't want to overspend on this, will 750W be enough?

Wireless Networking:
I need decent Wifi connection, help needed.

Warranty:
£69 didn't seem too bad for parts cover, presuming this extends all 12 month manufacturer warranties by another year, seemed worthwhile to me iven the value of the build.

My specs are below - actual price comes out around £2400

I would push for an 850W PSU on the 3080, just allows for a little headroom for upgrades, it's not much more expensive for the 850.
And you'll need the strix x570 with the 3900x.

The monitor would pair well, it's a little underpowered TBH, but not enough to be a major warning.

I’ve chosen you by far the classiest case on offer, great airflow and is a real looker.

I went for the TUF motherboard but @SpyderTracks has saved me from making a complete fool of myself (cheers, bud 🙂👍)

Went for the faster RAM, would’ve preferred to put 2x16GB in there but beggars can’t be choosers 😁

Changed the PSU to the fully modular 750w version. Less wires and semi passive so fan only kicks in when it’s under load. If you’ve got the extra few quid, the 850w would be worth it for thinking of the future.

Went for the H115i Platinum as that’s an improved version and comes with the swanky ML fans that are very quiet as they use magnetic levitation.

EDIT - Forgot to mention that I’ve put the improved WiFi card in that also has Bluetooth. It’s pretty nippy 🙂

Interestingly, @Scott posted on another thread recently that he saw a vid where there wasn’t much difference between 16GB and 32GB running Flight Simulator 20. If I can find the thread, I’ll post it here.

So you could potentially start with 2x8GB 3600 MHz and then bung in another couple at a later date 👍
I saw the same, but everywhere I looked online states 32Gb for higher resolutions.

Hey guys, sorry to bump this. Looked at some benchmarks and looking to save money where I can. PC doesn't necessarily need a clear upgrade path as I envisage the build lasting a while.

For cost saving, id be willing to sacrifice PCIe 4.0 support, meaning I'd be happy with a standard NVME SSD and a lower grade motherboard. I wouldn't mind downgrading my CPU to something like a 3700x or 10600k, as I'll be playing at 4k only anyway. Presume I wouldn't necessarily need an aftermarket cooler for the 3700x as no overclocking, although not sure about the 10600k stock cooler. No specific budget but something a bit nearer to 2k would be great. Thanks again!

Hey guys - posted a spec last week to ask for some advice.

Unexpected bill has come up meaning I'd like to keep my budget around £2k/£2100 tops now (previous spec was around £2500) so I've specced out a new PC.

Could you look at the below and let me know if theres a smarter way to spend? I'm pretty much set on the 3080, and also the case as I've heard it is good for cooling.

EDIT - forgot to add, use is 4k only, 60fps or higher. not interested in lower resolutions which is why i've skimped out a bit on the CPU
