4k Video Editing Spec - Thoughts?

Hi Everyone,

Considering an upgrade from my mac mini to be used as a 4k Video editing machine for YouTube videos. Will be using Adobe package for all work so wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the spec below. I'm told the Ryzen/Radeon combo is a good choice for the budget (£1500 +VAT)

Thanks in advance.

You could go for the X370 Prime mobo if you don't need such additional features as the Crosshair offers.

Also you could go for the R7 1700x since the 1800x involves paying £120 for a very, very slim difference.

That would open the way for a GTX 1070 which is a lot more powerful than the RX 580. Even just the cheaper mobo would get you most of the way there.

The H60 isn't a particularly great cooler. The H80i V2 is a good bit better. You might consider getting a cooler with the PCS quiet fans.

Hi,

I second the above advice. I'd also suggest switching the Firecuda or a standard hard disk because I don't think you'll get any benefit from it. The M.2 SATA can run your OS and programs and there would be enough space for the raw files you are processing to go on there and be processed on there. Once complete you can move them off to make space for the next job. Read/write speeds will be a factor when editing large files and the M.2 SATA is the fastest storage you can buy.

If you did want to consider upgrading to a more powerful GPU in the future you might want to go for the 550W, which would give you a little more expandability.

4k Video Editing Spec - Comments please

Hi All,

My 2nd attempt at spec'ing a video editing machine. Came close to throwing in the towel and going for iMac but still working on it. I have 4Tb of external storage for files and intend using the internal storage for programs and rendering etc. only.
This is primarily to run Adobe Premier Pro.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Frank,
thanks for the feedback, I've had another attempt at sepc'ing a machine, could you run your eye over it and give me your thoughts please.

The core spec - CPU, mobo, RAM, GPU - all seem fine.

You might consider the H80i with the quiet fans, if you're going for a quiet-ish build. You might also consider the Fractal Define S case, which is better at cooling but is also aimed to being a quiet case. Its better cooling may help is succeed more in the quiet stakes too, since the components' fans will have to work less hard.

What will you be doing on your network - do you have a NAS of some kind? Does your router support the speeds offered by the wifi card? If the answers are no, then you could get a cheaper wifi card.
