Ok I am a complete noob when it comes to p.c's and laptops. I have just bought a Vortex 3 laptop with the 7970m (apparently not the greatest choice) how do I install the new AMD drivers? When I go to the AMD website and select the right drivers they won't install. Is it a good idea to install the new drivers yet or wait a while and use the drivers that came with the laptop. Please help :)

I don't believe they have the latest mobile GPUs supported in the standard AMD Catalyst drivers yet. I think you have to use the default ones that came with the laptop or look to Clevo for updated ones.

Ok I see. Thanks for letting me know :) I'm using the installed drivers for now, but I'm having the same issues as most with the GPU being under utilised. Fingers crossed the new driver will sort this out!

Strange mine installed perfectly and I'm able to use the updated switchable graphics software with no problems too. Maybe you should try uninstalling the old driver then installing the new one to see if that helps?

You had any luck with the new driver? I just installed mine over the stock driver and everything has been good :) seen improvements in games too.

Updated the catalyst driver on my vortex 3 to 12.11 Beta... Seems to work and apparently has the Enduro hot-fix included somewhat in the package itself:

Ran 3D Mark again and saw a bit of a change in results compared to standard driver:

New results: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/4737408

No idea if I'd recommend people upgrading on the Clevo as it doesn't seem to detect the card automatically and you need to faff about with re-installing your intel iGPU driver after installing the Catalyst drivers. Hopefully we get a fully compatible catalyst driver for the card on the clevo once the official version of the 12.11 has been released.

Hey thanks for the update you saved me the trouble lol. I too downloaded the 12.11 beta driver which you will need to select yourself, as it is a beta driver ( it will not auto detect). I have been able to use it fine without re-installing the iGPU driver, although I have read this will need to be the case with most people. I too have seen a MASSIVE improvement :) especially on BF3!! There is currently no DX9 improvement with this driver, however this will be addressed in the near future too. So anyone considering whether or not to get the 7970m, I'd say GO FOR IT. It's still not perfect but the improvements are huge.

Here's the link to the support page for the 12.11 beta:

I will also be uploading some new performance video's onto YouTube if anyone wants to see the difference:

Note: MSI afterburner isn't working properly with the new beta driver yet.

Anyone have a list of games they are having trouble with? I can't seem to play the the most recent DIRT game Demo anymore? Was wondering if anyone else has had issues with the new drivers?

On installing 12.11 beta drivers, I seem to be getting crashes with BF3 in multiplayer games but not in campaign games. Actually the first time I installed I was getting BSODs but that seems to have stopped now. Might just clean install windows as it ends up taking nearly as much time as cleaning out the registry etc etc - don't seem to be having much luck =/
