Morning All,
Thanks for the help in advance on this.
So I recently bought the following new PC:
This scores around 9300 on the 3dmark TimeSpy test, which is about double my previous PC which I've recently sold to a friend so he can get into PC gaming himself.
Anyway, with my new PC in tow I thought, hell, shall I get a 4k Monitor? So I did, I bought the Asus VP28UQG which is a 4k 60hz monitor.
In the couple of days before my Monitor arrived, I played a few games on my old 1920x1080 monitor and was running literally everything in ultra/full settings at around 100-130+ FPS. Which obviously I was happy with.
When the new monitor arrived, I got everything connected. I booted up CoD BO4 and was a little shocked, probably due to now naive I am, at the dramatic drop in frames. So in full settings I ended up with between 35 and 60 (at a push) FPS. I ended up dropping the settings to the 'optimal' ones now highlighted by Nvidia Experience (which is a mix of medium/some high) and I get around 55-70 (at a push) Fps.
Is this normal? Was I naive to think I was going to be able to 4k game in higher settings?
To be honest, after googling it does seem that 4k Gaming in high/full settings is a thing of machines built on insane budgets (I read an article about someone trying to get their system to his 144hz 4k gaming and the only games they were truly able to reach that on were nearly half a decade and in some cases a decade old)
Should I just be happy with the higher resolution and the drop in frames and crack on?
I should say, though, I can obviously still play some in full settings at 4k; Path of Exile runs amazing at constant 60 with vsync on, Apex Legend is a 55-60 game which is fine at full settings. Metro Exodus is the one solo player game I was looking to play on the new PC and the frames on that at full settings is 35-40, so I'm quite gutted, but also, I realise my PC isn't the BEST out there and I should just be happy, right?
Anyway, the reason I'm posting in the Tech help section is that I just wanted to see whether there is anything I need to do specifically with a 4k monitor? Any software I should download? Drivers? As at first I was worried I'd somehow messed up the 'installation', but after googling I double checked frame rate setting etc and all seemed fine.
Thanks in advance guys and gals and please try to be nice about naive I might have been
Cheers
