Wanted to get a bit of advice on the below spec.
The laptop is to serve 2 purposes:
1) I have a new Ryzen 9 5900x for work but in around 12m time I'll need something to take with me when travelling. I was going to get a simple Ryzen 5 4500U laptop with a small but fast SSD for travelling, but reason (2) has come up!
2) My wife had an i7-4600U Dell for personal use - mainly photos and videos of the kids and browsing - but that was retired a while back and she's been using her work laptop. She now needs to start using a personal one again and our old i7-4600U Dells have been 'gifted' to the kids to do their schoolwork on and therefore, especially my son's one, is not a keyboard you want to share!
So, my thinking is either (as below) get one more powerful laptop now which my wife can use now and I can use in the future when travelling. The rationale for the lard storage is for photos. I was going to get a 500GB M2 and then a 4TB slower secondary drive, but it was actually cheaper to get 2 x 2TB SSDs.
My alternative is to get a lower powered (Ryzen 5 rather than Ryzen 7) spec that is built just for my wife (or even go intel as she would prefer a smaller chassis) and then keep my powder dry for a laptop for me in a few months time? I'll need mine for heavy duty spreadsheet work, so the more cores the better, BUT I will only ultimately need it 5-6 days a month as the rest of the time I'll be using my Ryzen 9 at home...
