Advice on this pc build

Hi all,

My old PC looks like its giving up the ghost, its 11 years old and windows XP. 3g ram, 600g hard drive with a 128mb graphics card.

I dont really play many games, the ones i do are old like football manager AOE 3 etc.

What I do use my pc for is photos and video editing. The pc understandably struggles with HD video and i have to downgrade it to DVD which it manages. I use Photoshop elements 7 and in the future will get a newer version. I also user cyber link power director for movie editing.

So below is the pc spec i was looking at, if anyone can advise especially on the graphics card. Ive gone with 8g ram, would probably upgrade to 16 in the future. What are people thoughts on using the pata to sata converter cables? i ask as i have two hard drives with all my photos on and could use them as back up, but worried about any extra power usage etc.

The case isnt the one i wanted, but the one i wanted which was £49 i couldnt have the card reader which is handing because of photos from the camera.

well, just looking at a 'good deal' i don't really want to go over £700 more the 600 end is fine. But i don't want anything that's overkill that im not going to get any real benefit or use out of. Im not going to use it for watching blu rays or 3d gaming etc. its not really needed for internet use, just the odd occasion perhaps, have a laptop i use for that

Please recommend a graphics card

Hi all,

im a bit stuck what graphics card i should get for the below. It is for video editing and photo editing, wont be playing any of the latest games, but would like it to be able to handle hd video editing.

I did wonder if i would get away with a 1g graphics card, i dont want one which is over kill if not needed. I looked at the R7250 and the 270x as well as the 650 and NVIDIA GTi 750

how much difference would i notice between R7 240 R9 270X

Im looking at a graphics card, how much difference would I notice if this is for general use and not for gaming, there is almost £200 in difference. I want to be able to watch and edit HD video so would the 240 be good enough.

2GB AMD RADEON™ R7 240

2GB AMD RADEON™ R9 270X

If you're not planning on gaming at all it probably will, it all depends on the level of video editing you'll be doing. It can benefit from GPU acceleration.
