Advice on upgrades to current Specialist Build

Morning all,

PSB my current PCSpecialist build that has served me well for the past 3 years.

I'm looking at some upgrades and I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU to the 5800X and increasing RAM from 16 to 32GB DDR4 3200MHZ as I plan to start some casual streaming on Escape From Tarkov.

When trying to upgrade my CPU I'm getting a notification telling me: "The case you have selected can support processor cooler radiators up to 140mm. The processor cooler you have selected features a 240mm radiator. Please select a smaller processor cooler or alternatively select a different computer case." I believe this might be a bug or is the 5800X incompatible with the H100X?

Any other suggestions on upgrades would be much appreciated.

Thanks all, have a merry xmas and new year 🎅

Welcome to the problem I've been having as well, so many cases on offer apparently can't fit 240mm+ radiators. It's not the CPU at fault for that, and since your current build has the same cooler in place already, it sounds to me like PC Specialist have made their requirement more strict for case and radiator combos.

Having said that, your new CPU to me doesn't look particularly far off what you already have, might not be worth the cost unless you want to chuck a bit more down and go to a 5900X?

For RAM, you could get 32GB DDR4 3600MHz for about £30 more.

That seems to be the case - I'll have a look at the 5900x. I don't believe my MOBO supports RAM speeds above 3200MHZ.

In all honesty I've been debating purchasing a new PC and leaving this one as a dedicated stream PC, but I'd have to get that past the wife

It supports 3600 and higher, you might need to update BIOS first if you're having issues applying the XMP profile to bring RAM to 3600:

As for case and cooler, Fractal's website says it can support 240 rad on top:

It could be an issue with the configurator, sometimes it gives false errors. You can try ringing PCS and talk through over the phone.

As for CPU, generally the 5800X3D is regarded as the best CPU for gaming on your platform. Might be worth considering that as an option, particularly if you don't plan on doing any content production? If you are, 5900X is king.

Thanks all, I'll upgrade the BIOS tonight.

What are your thoughts on these upgrades:

CPU: 5800X3D
RAM: 32GB Vengeance DDR4 3600MHZ
GPU: RTX 3080
PSU: Corsair 850RMx Series

Thanks,
Dave

I would say you need to get PCS ok to update BIOS, but if system is over 3 years old, you're prob out of warranty anyway.
