First thankyou to the PCS elves for getting my rig into pre-prod'n so quickly.

2ndly, looking to purchase 2nd laptop as pressie for friend.

I'll be able to claim the VAT back but not looking to spend much over £500 (ex vat).

Not for gaming, just for general usage.

Obviously not top of the range but just for general usage (web-surfing etc).

Before I recommend anything I want to make sure the VAT is clarified.

I would be very careful with the VAT claiming you are talking about as if you do not do it right then you could cause a lot of problems so I suggest reading up on the restrictions on VAT claims or clear it with the companies financial director.

When you cannot reclaim VAT

There are a number of situations where you cannot reclaim VAT that you have paid.

You cannot reclaim VAT paid for goods and services that are used for non-business activities. This includes:

* cars that are not used exclusively for business purposes (and any fitted accessories and delivery)
* goods and services for non-business use bought by charities or not-for-profit organisations

yes VAT is clarified. Double checked it with accountant but will have to get friend to order it in his name as can't claim VAT back on 'gift' (he's not a charity).

So with VAT @ 20% and a £500 (ish) budget, that'll give £600 to play with.
