APC Pro 1500 UPS Problem - Computer Power Supply Buzzing on Battery Backup

Hi

When I test my ups by turning the power off, my computer Power Supply starts buzzing on Battery Backup (the ups also starts beeping). I have a UK tech support number for APC. Can't call them until Monday.

Will this damaged my computer power supply/motherboard ?

Hi

I have been reading the corsair forum, am I allowed to link to it?

I quote: With some UPS backups you will get buzzing with high efficiency PSU's. This will not damage any of the components in the system.

I'm also going to ring APC tomorrow and see what they say about the matter.

Hi

Feedback from APC, they say my Pro 1500 UPS (£269) doesn't produce a Pure Sine Wave Signal.
I was told the buzzing will not harm my CORSAIR 650W power supply.

If I want a UPS that doesn't buzz the computer power supply I need to buy the: SMT1500I APC SMT1500I 980W Smart Uninterruptible Power Supplies - £430.79 (produces a pure sine wave signal).

At that price difference I guess you'll have to put up with the buzzing. I hope it's not too annoying for you. Have some rep for the info.

BTW, does having that melon helmet help reduce the sound of the buzzing much? ;)

Hi

Just came back and turned my PC on, after about 5 to 10mins the PC Power Supply started buzzing and windows 7 froze, couldn't move my mouse cursor. Had to turn the power off on the UPS.

What options do I have?

thxs

Phoned PCS support, advised that the 650W power supply was working ok.

APC support said to wait and see if the problem reoccurs.
