Hello guys. I am from Greece and i wanna buy a laptop for gaming. Since laptops in here are very expensive ( :taz: ), i was looking at pcspecialist for a good laptop. I saw this laptop: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/results/
I think it will be good for games but i have a big problem. I don't know if this company has good quality laptops ( i don't tell that they are not good, i just don't know ). So, Can anyone of you that have an Optimys IV 15.6 laptop tell me his impressions and if he had a problem? And how is their service... Thanks

I would think the servicing arrangements of PCS are based mainly on customer deliveries within the UK. You may want to contact PCS first to see whether they are willing to deliver to Greece. Even if they are, there may be additional returns costs if anything goes wrong.

PCS does use good quality componants but the choice of those componants is up to you when it comes to fulfilling your requirements. I'm sure everyone is pleased with their Optimus IV but it will have been built for their requirements, not yours. However, compare this with a shop bought computer where you have no idea of the componants used.

Ask yourself why laptops are very expensive in Greece. Are there additional taxes which would also apply to the import of a PCS laptop?

Vaggeli, I'm also in Greece (Crete) although I'm British. I've ordered an Optimus IV from PCS but I had it delivered to my son's, my wife is visiting them for Easter (Catholic Easter is now, Orthodox Easter of course isn't for another month) and she will bring it back here for me.

From my limited experience already you'll have several problems. The first will be paying for your laptop, PCS seem not to accept credit cards from outside the UK. They wouldn't accept my UK credit card when I ordered online from here (on a Greek IP address of course). In the end I paid by direct online bank transfer and you may have to do the same. Your second problem will be delivery, I'm quite sure you can get your laptop shipped to Greece but the cost will probably be high, especially as you'll want it insured. Thirdly, I don't know whether PCS will be able to fit you a Greek keyboard but if they can there may be an extra cost involved (your written English is excellent so you'll probably be fine with a UK keyboard). And lastly, like me, you'll have problems if it ever needs to go back for repair because (again) the cost of insured shipping will be high.

I will write a detailed review of my Optimus IV when I get my hands on it, my son (who is also a techie like me) likes it so much he wants to keep it. I'm pretty sure his next computer will come from PCS. :)

You will, without doubt, get a better spec laptop from PCS than ever you'll find in the shops here in Greece (or in the UK for that matter). Oh, and as I'm sure you know, there will be no additional taxes to pay for importing your laptop into Greece, the UK and Greece are both EU member states and so anything bought VAT paid in one state can be imported tax-free into another.

Καλη τυχη!
