I hope this is posted in the right place, is there any way of arranding files and in a Windows folder by name and them not being grouped by folders at the top and files at the bottom?

You can remove grouping and then just sort by name,
Open file explorer and click on the view tab, options are all there?

Or have I misunderstood?

The screenshot doesn't show any grouping that I can see, only sorting.

Windows treats folders with higher priority than files (coming from a Mac user I never understood why), so always (according to sort preference) puts all folders, before listing files.

By default MacOS treats everything the same, unless you specify a grouping...
