Hi guys, recently bought a Ultranote 15.6 from PCSpecialist a few months and very happy with the customer service I received etc so I decided to purchase a new desktop from them. I will predominately use the PC for gaming, and obviously browsing, streaming, etc. I will not need an OS and the budget is ~£800-850 unless you can substantially improve the desktop for a something little over that price range.

Gaming PC.

Alright folks, just built a PC im 99% happy with although need some last pointers incase I have missed anything. I am looking to shave abit off the price so wasn't sure whether to down-grade the Motherboard, or drop the SSD. Here is the spec I built below. It'll be used mainly for gaming and obviously some browsing etc. Any help would be appreciated! Looking to purchase this PC next week.

If you were going to sli you would need a more powerful psu so unless you plan to change that laster then for me I would drop that function off your motherboard as it is an upgrade path where as the ssd will benefit you right off the bat.

Thanks for the help mate, so drop the motherboard to the previous one I stated the Gigabyte Z97P-D3? (If so, what would be the downfall of doing so?)

I would get it confirmed by those with more know but as I see it the main loss is the sli functionality.

The only downside to downgrading the motherboard would be that you wouldn't be able to add a second GPU in SLi at a later date, other than that the cheaper motherboard will not reduce functionality or performance at all.

Saying that you could probably get away with a build from the home/office section.

Thanks for the help mate, can anyone shed some light on the motherboard? Is it worth downgrading or what?

Cadwah's correct, if you aren't going to be adding a second graphics card down the line, then downgrading will not make any impact to performance, save a few quid.

Was thinking of upgrading to the CORSAIR CARBIDE SERIES™ 200R COMPACT GAMING CASE, is there any issues if I do i.e limited cooling etc? Or is the case fine.

I currently have InWIN G7 BRUSHED EFFECT DARK GREY CASE.

The Corsair Carbide is ok for Mid-Level Gaming, General & Office Use, Video & Video Editing.

I don't think an i5 and a GTX 970 class as mid level gaming, the cooling probably wouldn't be sufficient.

The InWIN G7 is for Extreme Gaming, Home Servers, Extreme PC Systems so would probably be a better fit.

Personally I wouldn't spend less than £59 on a case with so many high end components.

I have the 300R, which is slightly bigger, but overall is nearly the same.

I have an i5-4690 and 2x EVGA ACX SC 760s which are factory overclocked and I add a slight overclock myself every so often :)

The 200R will be a good case, it has a good amount of fan slots and looks relatively smart, I put it in a few of the builds I do :)

Indeed, I like the look of the 200R alot more than the InWin as it looks more classy personally anyway. How do you find the cooling to be with your 200R case? Would it be smart to add some extra fan slots in to improve cooling also?

Thanks for the help guys!

I have the 300R, which Is slightly bigger and has an extra fan slot (I think), my 300R is great, my i5 and 2x760s never get too hot, can't knock the case for the price :)

Ah, misread. Would you advise getting 1-2 more fans fitted for better cooling or is there no point?

Mine has all fan slots filled (not through PCS though), I would defeintely add a couple extra fans, but then again I go over the top with cooling :p

Ah sweet, thanks for the help. Another quick question regarding the ultra quiet PSU and normal, is there any significant difference in terms of quietness?
