I have a spare ssd from an old machine and wondered how many ssd this motherboard can handle. I already have a primary ssd fitted together with a 2tb hdd. Does this mb have room or slots for a third drive?

I assume your spare SSD is a sata SSD? In which case the mobo should have you covered for an extra SSD or two...
