Thinking of ordering a pc off here for a friend, I see there is an option to use an asus prime b450-plus with a 5600x. Would pcspecialist upgrade the bios for you or would these not be compatible? He is not interested in overclocking so wanted to go with a lower end motherboard.

It really wouldn't be recommended to go with a B450, despite the fact that they are technically compatible.

Why would that not be reccomended?
It's an old board that's been modified to work with the new processors via BIOS update, but the VRM's aren't very good for modern processors, and there's no upgrade path.

A B550 has much better feature set as well as better futureproofing.

He isnt overclocking anyway, so who cares about the vrms. The only benefit b550 has is pcie 4.0 which is pretty useless in a mid range build, and better vrms to allow for overclocking which he is not going to do.

Neither options allow for futureproofing as the next amd cpus will use a new socket.

+ thunderbolt, better usb c support, better RAM speeds. They’re all things that we may take for granted right now, but if you’re speccing it correctly, then you’re thinking 7 - 10 years in the future.

For the sake of £13 between the Asus Prime B450 and the B550, you're missing out on more features than makes sense for saving a tiny fraction of cost. The Prime B550 is out of stock currently but due back on 8/01, so you can still spec it and it won't hold the build up at all.
